WHY HIDE % OF SALT IN FOOD? Our dog needs low salt food as dying from Kidney Disease and HILLS wants prescription and HIGH PRICE but hides the amount of SALT in its foods! Transparency should be Federal Law! Our dog refuses to eat it and now won’t eat any food. Don’t try this as may turn your dog off to all food, loose weight and die which ours seems to be.
Our dog has kidney disease and we were using a different commercial dog food for dogs who have renal disease. Because she was allergic to the chicken in it (created digestive issues and bad gas), our vet recommended this product. We were afraid she wouldn't like changing products but she absolutely loves it, from the first bite. Our dog has always had a good appetite but we were afraid with the kidney disease she would slowly lose interest in eating. However with this food, that possible eventuality seems far off.
Because my 17 year old "puppy" only eats k/d products for his kidney issues, he just started Hills Prescription Diet k/d chicken flavored Wet Food. But some times I can tell he wants something different. I was so happy Chewy recommends this coordinating product. This lamb flavored dry dog food is also k/d so our vet approves. We use it as a treat and our dog loves the change and we know he can have as much as he wants and it's good for him.
If your dog is is transitioning from a quality food with high quality protein sources and no fillers they may have a very hard time adjusting to this food. Even with a 3 week transition time, my dog still got sick and eventually refused to eat the food. I was ready to give up, as all the main dog food manufacturers who make "prescription" diets unfortunately contain low quality ingredients. Fortunately after doing a lot of research I found a kidney diet from a smaller family owned pet food company that is made with high quality and wholesome ingredients. We transitioned without any digestive problems and he loves it. I don't think the rules will let me post the name of the food here, but do some searches on kidney diets for dogs online and you will find several other options besides the big pet food manufacturers out there. Some of the best ones are available on Chewy and some don't even require a prescription (a controversy in itself).
She has become very picky and doesn't always choose to eat the Stew. But I try to work with her. Actually, the lamb is new only in Kibble, so wen I get the next order of stew, I will try the Lamb there as well. Maybe that will change her mind.
Both of my white Maltese dogs have turned red in the mouth and feet area. Even their tongues have to red, they both look like clowns now! Chill out in the red dye in this dog food!!!
Not sure if the new biome formula or what, but I hoped my dog would like the lamb formula since he needs kidney care. He will go all day and night and still won’t touch this food. So yes I am very disappointed in it. My cat likes his Hills kidney care, but my dog would rather starve than eat it. So the $50 something I spent on it was a total waste.
My pet is special about food, he was prescribed with this prescription food and he is enjoying it.
our dog Jimmy is doing well with this food. He has allergy to chicken so this was a great alternative.
Worked with me to get a prescription from my vet, delivery crazy quick!
