The Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care with Lamb Dry Dog Food is clinically proven nutrition that can help transform your pet’s life. As pets age, damage to the kidney tissues may occur, which affects the kidney’s role to function properly and filter toxins and waste from the blood. It is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. This may also decrease their appetite, which could eventually result in the loss of muscle mass. And so the Hill’s nutritionists and veterinarians created this special diet, which supports your dog’s kidney function and helps to sustain muscle mass—in fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.
Key Benefits- Protects vital kidney and heart function and supports the natural ability to build lean muscle daily.
- Enhanced Appetite Trigger (E.A.T.) technology helps increase the appetite and food intake.
- Made with controlled phosphorus and low sodium, plus therapeutic levels of l-carnitine and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Also includes high levels of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
- Made in USA and clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

Older Yorkie who needs to keep kidneys working. Switched months ago by Vet's direction and her kidney functions improved dramatically .You will need Rx from your doctor and expect a delay when ordering because once they get Rx from you or doctor they review internally.

By Norva on Feb 12, 2021
I was saddened to learn my 16 year old baby was diagnosed with CKD. I’ve been trying a couple different avail prescription foods as I have a finicky eater on my hands and he seems to go back to this hard kibble.

By LilahsMom on Jan 26, 2021
My 7 y/o aussie was diagnosed with possible CKD and they recommended we switch her food. Initially, we went with another brand but unfortunately that particular brand irritated her skin, so we made the switched to the lamb flavored Hill's Kidney Care. She LOVES it.

Kidney Care
By Maggie on Jan 12, 2021
Has helped our baby to come back to normal. She seems to be allergic to dry dog foods but not this one. After starting on this diet she no longer has to take allergy medicine. Highly recommend if your baby has kidney issues. Only drawback is the high price. One has to sacrifice for their pets sometimes though.

My dog does not like this food.
By Chewennie on Dec 28, 2020
My dog does not like it. He would spit the kibbles out and walk away. He would eat it only when he figures out that there is no other food. I got this because it's required by the vet for his kidney issues.

By Dasha on Jan 22, 2021
Wish they had this for large dogs. Would like bigger bags and bigger pieces. Glad I could get low protein lamb due to allergies to other meat.
