Questions & Answers

27 Customer Questions

Is this food available in puppy formula or all the same since it is dehydrated?

Answer by Cockers5Jul 21, 2023
This question is from last year but the other answer is incorrect. This formula is NOT approved for puppies. Per AAFCo statement is it adult maintenance only. Please look at the AAFCO statement for all life stage if feeding to a small or medium breed puppy. If large breed them statement needs to state for growth of large breeds.

For the feeding guideline…if you are to feed your dog 2 cups per day, is it a cup hydrated or a cup pre hydration

Are the ingredients also sourced in the USA?

Answer by ChewyJul 29, 2021
The Honest Kitchen try to use U.S. origin ingredients whenever they can, but not all ingredients they use are grown within the United States. Currently, just over 67% of their ingredients are of US origin, as they also use some which are grown overseas. Their green beans, celery, and spinach are from Europe. Their organic fair-trade quinoa is from Bolivia, papaya is from Thailand, bananas and organic coconut are from the Philippines, and organic kelp is from Iceland. The Honest Kitchen source absolutely nothing from China, and this even includes the individual components of their vitamin-mineral premix.

Can you mix up and leave in refrigerator for a day or so.

Answer by MelodySep 04, 2025
Yes, you can make and refrigerate Honest Kitchen dehydrated dog food for 2-3 days after it has been rehydrated, but it's crucial to treat it like fresh food once water is added and consume it within that timeframe. For longer storage, you can freeze the rehydrated food in individual portions. My dog will only eat this when it is warm so I just add a bit of hot water from the kettle and stir to bring it up in temperature a bit.

My dog loved it! However, it made her lethargic, caused her to start vomiting sporadically, and made her itchy all over. I didn't realize it at first, and thought other things might causing these issues. Through testing and deletions in her diet over the course of a couple weeks, I discovered this food was indeed the cause of all those issues. Given that they appeared within a day of starting the food, I should have made the connection sooner, but at least I did confirm it. Unfortunately, I now have half a box left and I think I'll have to toss it because I can't fathom risking a friend's dog potentially experiencing this. Note: my dog is otherwise very healthy and active, so these issues were an extreme change in her demeanor.

My Springer Spaniels have been on the Honest Kitchen Dehyrdrated foods for their dinner meal each day for about two years. I have seen improvements in their coats, skin, and overall health. They give the beef a five paws up rating. Both dogs love the Honest Kitchen products. One howls, the other yodles during preparation - quite a happy chorus.

I've been a big fan of Honest Kitchen and have been feeding it to my dog for 5 years. This latest box however has left my JRT so itchy that she is bleeding from scratching so much (itching started when I began this latest box and stopped when I stopped feeding it). She has a poultry allergy which makes her severely itchy and leads me to believe that chicken was added to this. Has anyone else experienced this as of late? I have reported the issue to Honest Kitchen and am waiting to hear back from them.

I ordered the beef after my dog did well on the chicken. His vet wanted him off chicken as the vet theorized chicken base foods may be making him itchy. It did not go well. I don't know if I received a bad batch or if this was just not well tolerated by my dog. It made him violently ill. He refused to eat it. The food had a strong smell to it. I think it was bad. I ended up replacing it with wet food, which Teddy immediately and happily ate. The poor dog was hungry but this just made him sick.

I've been home cooking for my senior golden for the past year and was hoping to find an alternative solution that would have the vitamins, minerals, etc. I tried this food and my dog really likes it. The only drawback is that if I feed her at each meal what I should, it would become unaffordable. My solution is to use it as a topper/blend on the home cooked and then I add canned dog food. My dog likes it, and I like the ease of preparation.

The dogs love it!

We’ve fed HK for years, and the dogs love it. Great for when we travel, too, as a week’s worth of food for our two big dogs fits in a gallon zip bag. Easy to use,

I'm not sure if they changed the recipe or ingredients. My two pups have been eating this for a few years. They were having issues with their stools, so I quit using. I've read the ingredients and does not appear to change so I'm not sure why this was not a good/quality food for them. I will not purchase in the future.

Biscuit absolutely LOVES this food. It was recommended by our Pet Sitter (she gives this to her dogs). Biscuit will sit and cry by the counter while the water/food mixture sets (3 minutes). Oh and I usually have to wipe up a pool of drool after also - and he is not a drooling kind of dog! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
