I've been purchasing this brand of bedding for quite a long time, but the quality has gone downhill in last 3 bags purchased. I'm not sure if it's been an ongoing glitch in manufacturing or if they changed to a cheaper quality paper and/or manufacturer. This bedding had always been fluffy and soft, almost like the feel of a kleenex; and because of that, it didn't take a lot to cover the bottom of the cage. However, the bedding is now extremely rough to the touch; it feels like paper after it's gotten wet and dried out. The consistency has changed, too. It used to have rather good-sized fluffy pieces that were packed together, but now instead comes apart in large dry clumps that are tiny pieces all mashed together ; and when you break apart the clumps, it crumbles into tiny, dusty pieces. It now takes 3/4 bag to fill the cage versus 1/4 bag. I used this product because the quality was worth the price, and I liked that it was soft and fluffy on the ground for my guinea pigs. But the quality is definitely not worth the price now, especially considering it takes a lot more product to get the same use. I genuinely loved this brand, so I am highly disappointed that I will now need to find another.
The thought of smelling lavender over pee was appealing enough to give this a try. Knowing that lavender oil can be harmful to animals, I found that Kaytee only uses the dried buds and leaves from the plant. Not only are they safe, guniea pigs also love them! The first time we cleaned the cage, we used a 50/50 mix (old type mixed with the lavender) but it wasn't necessary. Our little Pluto was ecstatic with this product! He was running around, chirpping happily and loves cage-cleaning days. His BFF, a little Lhasa Apso mix, also loves hanging out and sniffing the cage. We still scoop the cage often with a full clean out every week, but I have noticed a big improvement in the overall smell of the cage. Unless we find something superior, this will continue to be our standard bedding.
Our girls, Doloris and Julieta, 1.5 year old Guinea Pigs LOVE this stuff. We also buy just the plain white bedding but they love the lavender buds. They seem happier and calmer with the lavender added. I love that it's fluffy and soft and quite absorbent. Easy to scoop up when dirty and easy to add to their cage.
Stinks to high heaven and probably not safe for hamsters health . WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS
This bedding smells wonderful, even after being peed in. It’s super absorbent and fluffy, perfect for those small anxious rodents.
I decided to try this bedding. It cane out of the package had difficulty breaking it up in their rooms. There was no smell to it at all and my bunnies didn't like it. I'm going back to my Boxo brand from a local store called Bowmans hay and feed store in Westminster MD. Bigger package with softer bedding for my bunnies.
This bedding is awesome . My rats made a little nest to hide in. It’s soft and fluffy and works great . Thank you Chewy .
It has very big smell, my bunnies don’t like them, and I also can’t make sure they’re good for their health
Great bedding! Terrific, light fragrance. Have used it for a couple years for our guinea pigs; definitely recommend!
Hamsters are VERY sensitive to smells!! The lavender is SUPER HARD on them from a respiratory sense, and the kaytee brand is extremely dusty for their lungs, and can cause respiratory and eye infections!
