will this heat the water if used as submersible or is it just to keep the ice from forming at the top of the water?
Answer by Chewy • Sep 11, 2019
This deluxe pond de-icer can either be used as a floating deicer or as a submersible deicer with just the simple click of a button. To use the Thermo-Pond Perfect Climate Deluxe as a floating de-icer, leave the float ring attached. To use it as a submersed de-icer, simply unscrew and remove the float ring. This simple process requires only a few seconds and allows consumers to change the functionality of their deicers at any time.

Awesome heater

We had this heater a few years ago and switched to a different style that only kept a small hole in the middle open. Unfortunately, our pond froze over because the other heater drifted over a rock and apparently didn't have enough water or something. Ordered this heater and it came with instructions of what to do if your pond was frozen which worked amazingly!!! Pond had a fairly good size opening by the next day and within 3 days was completely open. It is true, however, that it only lasts for 1 - 2 seasons at the most but well worth not losing our fish!

Pond Deicer

Not very powerful. Ice gathered around the deicer and even in the middle of it to where I kept having to go poke holes in the ice. I know the heater on it works but it is extremely weak. It says not to take it out of the water while it is plugged in so that's exactly what I did (I didn't think it worked) but steam stared coming off so I know it "works". I don't suggest this to anyone. I'm in Kansas so if this is giving me issues here nobody up North should consider this

Dissatisfied with thermostat but works well

It works as advertised. Draws 765 watts but the internal thermostat does not kick off at the highest outdoor temperature I have clocked so far of 58 degrees. Pond water temp is 52.3 degrees. We have used a 1500 watt, different brand pond heater in the past that did not kick off either. Was hoping this brand would be better. As we are trying to be conscious of our electrical use I do at least feel better we have lowered our consumption by half and may explore a remote shut off. Would be nice if this review box was taller than 1 inch so you could see what you are writing plus I have not used ANY emojis but apparently any apostrophes used are unacceptable so you have to remove them to submit your review.

Short Circuit After 1 Month

I bought this because my other short circuited after a few years which I got a few years out of it. This one I just got in December and we are in January and it's done already....

Excellent Heater

Bought this pond heater just in time. We had 5 degree weather and this little guy (750 watt) did a fanstatic job keeping an open hole in the ice. Can't say enoungh. Buy the 1500 watt unit for a larger breathing hole.

Shorted out the outlet.

This product only worked for a couple weeks before it shorted out the outlet it was connected to. My electrician said it was not functioning correctly and could not be use.

-1 No ice

Had a bitter cold front come thru. Temps got down to -1 and stayed below freezing for 4 days. Put the deicer in and it kept the pond ice free. The fish were huddled around it like kids around a campfire.

Keeps the pond ice free

We have a small 60 gallon garden pond that our outdoor cats like to drink from. I've even seen birds perch on the rocks in it to drink. With winter coming I wanted to keep the ice off so they could continue getting water. This deicer makes the water not freeze.

Good Pond Heater...while it lasts.

I have purchased this pond heater twice. It does a great job, for about one season and then fails (which is why I purchased the 2nd time). The cost is reasonable, so I will probably buy a new one each winter, in part because I can't find another one that is reasonably priced. Just a little frustrating that it only lasts for one year.
