What Causes Cat Litter Odor?
You don’t have a stinky cat, you have a stinky litter box. And while no animal has pleasant smelling waste, cat litter odor can be extra powerful. There are a variety of factors that make cat litter odor so strong. Cat urine is very concentrated, containing pheromones and hormones used to mark their territory. In addition, as cat urine breaks down, it releases an ammonia odor and mercaptans (the same smell produced by our smelly friend the skunk).
What’s The Best Way To Control Litter Odor?
Controlling or eliminating litter odor is an issue that every cat owner has to tackle. The first step is to make sure your cat is properly trained and has access to a litter box with fresh litter in it. Most experts recommend having one more litter box than you do cats, so two boxes for one cat, three boxes for two cats and so on. The second step is maintaining the box by removing used litter regularly. Scoop clumps into a Litter Genie® pail to help lock litter and odor away.
What's The Best Way To Eliminate Litter Odors?
Rule number one is always keep a clean litter box. Having a Litter Genie® pail next to your litter box is a great way to ensure that you have a place to lock away your used litter to keep your home fresh and your cat happy.
How Many Litter Boxes Should I Have?
Most experts recommend having one more litter box than you do cats, so two boxes for one cat, three boxes for two cats and so on. That will make sure your cat always has a place to go!
My Cat Missed The Litter Box, What Do I Do?
If it’s a one time issue, treat the affected area with water, vinegar and mild soap and blot dry. If it’s a repeated issue, consider moving your litter box, retraining your cat, or visiting the vet to make sure it’s not a medical issue.

How Deep Should My Litter Be?
Most cats prefer two inches of litter or less. Too deep, and your cat may not like their footing and opt to go to the bathroom elsewhere.

So glad I pulled the trigger on this purchase!
By QueenGenevieve on Jan 20, 2021
My son recently moved in with me while he is saving for a new apartment. With him came his cat, Talon. That meant that we now had two cats in a relatively small home, with two litterboxes. I had to move Genevieve's litter box into my office/living-room which meant that her Daily Go's were no longer allowed to linger in the box for any amount of time. Since my son now had the same issue with Talon's litter box in his immediate living space, I decided to purchase two of these Litter Genie's for the house. Prior to this purchase, we were using Ziplock bags to contain the evidence, which was costly and inefficient. These little 'diaper pails' have made all the difference. We keep them right next to the litter boxes and as soon as we hear scratching, we scoop. This leaves very little time for the smell to permeate our small spaces. They are the perfect size and work exactly as advertised. The scoop holder and scoop are also nice bonus! … more

no really though...you need this
By Cairo on Jan 20, 2021
We were skeptical at first, but we live in a roughly 550 square foot 1 bedroom city apartment and our one cat has two boxes and uses both - we needed to do something about that classic “cat box” smell. This system is phenomenal; you honest to goodness do not smell a thing. We are totally thrilled! The only thing I will say is that the actual mileage may vary depending on your cat’s bathroom habits, we only got a week out of it before we had to empty it - which is totally fine, just something to be aware of! Easy enough to set up and use and believe it or not, emptying it is not the horror show that we thought it would be. Great buy!
By coco on Jan 11, 2021
Currently I live where I share a dumpster with my neighbors, so taking kitty waste out daily was quite an annoying task. This litter genie has made cleaning the litter box a breeze!!! Simple setup and easy to use I absolutely love it! Even the litter scoop is perfect, and I love that you can set it up to where it goes on the side of the Genie. Will definitely be recommending to any of my cat owning friends/family! My one issue so far was the middle clamp where it's supposed to lock in the middle is thinner plastic so it was a bit of a concern but after carefully bending it forward it locks fine :)

Amazing system!
By Waterlover on Jan 14, 2021
I had seen this litter system on ads but I'm not the first one to jump on new product. The fact that Jackson Galaxy recommends this is a big plus. The concept was confusing at first but I slowly walked through the instructions and the setup was easy. I've been using it for two weeks now and I absolutely love it. I don't have to collect bags anymore I don't have heavy bags of clay litter and matter anymore I can put the little bags in my trash can and they go out with my regular trash everything's very clean. my only mistake was is I bought the regular size I didn't even know they had an extra large so if you have multiple cats you might want to consider getting the extra large version of this I had seen this litter system on ads but I'm not the first one to jump on new product. If you are in doubt, don't be
By Holistikittymom on Jan 4, 2021
I got this as part of a special a few months back, and did not think it was going to be as wonderful as it is. I am a multiple cat household and rescue and was very pleased with the capacity of just one refill. I truly expected it to run out very quickly but it was not the case. It was so awesome to not fill the plastic grocery bags and cart them out to the trash every day. Even with the number I have, it was NOT necessary to use a new bag every single day. That was the biggest shock to me and also the tremendous selling point. I did not anticipate, honestly, buying more refills after the initial pack was finished, but I cannot live without it. Learning curve
By Kristin on Jan 23, 2021
Takes a bit of doing to figure out how the inserts work, but once you do it's super convenient. I like the trimmer right inside the unit so you don't have to go grab scissors to trim the bag when it needs a change. I wipe it down inside the lid with cleaning wipes every time I change the bag out and it stays (relatively) clean. Less plastic waste overall, doesn't stink up the trash.

How did I live without it?!
By RoseC on Jan 13, 2021
We have lived without cats for 6 years. Recently adopting 2 young kitties, we needed to buy everything new. We never had a LItter Genie before and now I can't remember how we ever lived without one! It makes twice-daily pan cleanings a breeze. The only negative I can say about it is the installation of the bagging system was difficult to figure out in the beginning. Replacing the bags wasn't much easier. But barring that, I love this thing!

Well this "silly" thing is actually invaluable
By KidsKats on Jan 16, 2021
I have looked at this many times, decided it was silly, and brushed it off. Decided to finally buy it... Wish I had bought it sooner! It keeps the smell in check, it holds multiple days for three cats, and it is easy as all get out to use. As close to magic as it gets. I can't imagine regretting this. And, bonus, everyone thinks it's cool so even the kids are scooping the poops. Winning.

Incredible
By Catlady on Jan 3, 2021
I love this thing. I was thinking this might be a little frivolous and unnecessary and I wasn’t sure how long it would take to fill it with three cats but it is so worth it. I no longer need to take out the trash every morning and night in the cold and can just fill this up and take it out once. I have been using for over two weeks now and it is still not full. The convenience is worth it. It does not smell. I was also worried about that but it really hides it so well.

litter genie
By alexandria on Jan 21, 2021
love this! my mom recommended this to me. bought the smaller sized system for my single cat. if I could go back I would have purchased the largest one for the additional space but otherwise, I could not be happier! makes cleaning the litter a little less annoying. everything is in one place and it does not smell at all!
