Oxbow’s Western Timothy Grass Hay is hand-selected by Owner John Miller himself. John is a fifth generation farmer who understands and recognizes quality hay. That’s why every bag of Oxbow hay is hand-packed, quality-assured and guaranteed to meet the nutritional needs of your pet.
Grass hay is absolutely vital to the health of small herbivores. It provides not only fiber, but environmental enrichment that mimics your pet’s natural habitat. As the caregiver, it is your responsibility to offer your pet hay every day.
Grown without the use of chemical, this product is 100% organically grown. Offer your pet what they would naturally forage for in the wild!
Hay is a variable product because it is grown in natural conditions. Each season creates hay that will look, feel and taste different. Composed of a variety of naturally-occurring hays.
Botanical Hay can be fed free choice to rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, prairie dogs and other herbivores as an alternative to timothy, oat hay, and brome. Free-choice means that the feed is available at all times. If they finish what is given, you need to give them more! Hay should not only be used for nutritional purposes, but also for mental stimulation and the promotion of natural foraging behavior

Is the botanical hay save to give my 3 month old bunny as a treat. Or wait until she is older?
Answer by • Nov 09, 2020
This hay can be fed freely to young, nursing, and pregnant animals, but should only be offered in small amounts to all other adult animals.
Can this used for hamsters?

Botanical Hay is a great enrichment option for hamsters.
Can n my sulcata tortoise eat this?
Answer by • Nov 17, 2021
Many grassland species of tortoises do benefit and enjoy eating hay. However, we do recommend working with your trusted exotics veterinarian when debating about your tortoise's diet, they have a personal relationship with your pet and will be the best source of information for you. While this Botanical Hay is likely a safe option it has not been tested in tortoises specifically.
My rabbit only eats Oxbow food and orchard hay...I went out on a limb with the botanical blend and she stomps her foot at it! Refuses to eat it :( Back to orchard hay for her!

Nutritional value?
My rabbit loves this hay, but I'm unsure of its nutritional value. He will eat every handful I put in his litter box so he is definitely a BIG fan-- I have never had him run out of hay before trying this so clearly he likes it. I did buy this kind by accident, I originally intended to get timothy because I know that is the healthiest for him.

Oxbow Botanical hay
I wouldn’t recommend this item if your rabbits don’t like Timothy hay. My pet rabbit and my outdoor wild rabbits refused to eat it. I line the bottom of my pet rabbits litter box with it. So it won’t go to waste.

No better than mature timothy
I purchased this in the fall thinking that it would partly compensate for the greens shortage. While the package has a strong aroma, that is for the human buyer. Rabbits are not interested. The hay is so mature that my rabbit had no interest in it either. In the spring I dried a lot of dandelion and white clover and have been feeding that as a treat. That is what they really like.

Brown and more like Meadow Hay not Timothy
Bought a few bags of Botanical Hay on Nov 21, 2022 and it was more brown and like Meadow/soft grass hay, not Timothy hay. Disappointing as my rabbits normally love this kind. But the last few bags, they just push around in their litter box. It's gotten so soft that I use it on the bottom of the litter box now. Hopefully the quality will be better soon... The positive...it still smells pretty. :-/

Guinea pigs love it!
I like getting this hay variety as a treat for my 2 guinea pigs. The hay is very fragrant and typically loaded with seed pods (the fluffy pieces). My girls love it!
