About This Item

Details

  • KMR 2nd Step is formulated to follow KMR, Goat’s Milk KMR, or mother’s milk, and gently introduces nursing kittens to solid food. Best for kittens that are up on their feet and lapping from a bowl (4–5 weeks old).
  • This weaning powder is packed with vitamins, minerals, trace nutrients, and DHA to meet the nutritional needs of young kittens and support visual and cognitive development.
  • This powder is made with natural milk protein, so it’s highly digestible. Once mixed, it should be lapped from a bowl, not fed from a bottle.
  • Whisk or shake 1 part powdered KMR 2nd Step into 2 parts warm water; only mix enough KMR 2nd Step for a 24-hour period.
  • Consult your veterinarian for advice. This food is for furbabies only, not for human consumption

In early October 2025, I found an almost dead, black feral kitten near my workshop door on our 3 acre property. We had several hard freezes the last few nights and although he is a longhaired kitten, he was so cold that he didn't even try to run when I picked him up. He hung limp as I grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, and I was worried that he was paralyzed. I could tell that he was near weaning age. His eyes were open all the way and ears erect and some of his baby teeth in. But he was so thin! I do not know how long he had been out on his own. I could feel very vertebrae, top and also the facets and where they connected to each rib. Every tendon and bone in his body was easily felt. I put him on our postal scale and he weighed 1 pound 5 oz. I called the local vets to see if they had any kitten formula. They didn't have anything, so I immediately put in an order with Chewy for this product PETAG KMR2 2nd Step Kitten Weaning Food. And Acana Highest Protein Kitten Kibble. They were delivered two days after I ordered. The kitten had loose bowels from cows milk and regular cat kibble. But within 30 hours of starting these two foods, his feces became normal in shape and consistency and he started to put weight on. He mostly just ate and slept the first two weeks. ICU kitten recovery. Slowly we started getting him used to being held and then playing. He is now roaming the house and behaving like a normal kitten. Whew! Yesterday I took him to the vet for wormer and they weighed him at 5 pounds 7 OZ exactly one month after starting on these foods he quadrupled his weight and has doubled in body length and height! He still loves them and I have ordered more so he can stay on a healthy growth trajectory. Thank you Chewy for the prompt delivery and carrying such a wonderful array of foods to choose from for our companions. I live in a rural area and no large pet stores are nearby. You are my life line to great food and products for my animals. Thank you.

Tried this for my weaning foster babies

Kittens lapped this up! Would mix and pour some in a separate bowl at mealtime with their mushy food and was gone in no time!

LITTLE LIFE SAVER!

I donated this to a rescue who had six newborn kittens with no mom ... they all survived. I donated regular KMR before the weaning food.

Kittens like it.

This comes in 12.5 oz cans which is great when feeding feral cats and kittens. The kittens and cats like it and it works great to lure them into traps for TNR.

Recently we fostered some orphaned kittens (5) and they were still young enough when we got them that they needed milk. After purchasing same product at local pet store and realizing how much they would go through, some quick math showed us that wasn't sustainable! $$$ Started looking for less expensive option and Chewy came to the rescue! Saved us money and we still could give them the nutrition they needed.

The kittens I rescued were bottle fed. When they went to solid food one kept sucking at the back of a sibling ear. I tried rubbing alcohol on her ear hoping the taste would discourage but it didnt. So by mixing this formula with warm water and then adding the Friskies kitten dry food it seems to have cured the needy kitten of its suckling problem. I also have an 18 year old cat named Sally. She is healthy but keeps getting skinny. She licks the juices off the cans of wet food but doesnt eat the meat even though her teeth are good. Well this combination of the KMR 2 and kitten food she loves and is gaining weight.
