Useless. Did absolutely nothing to calm a lovable, but rambunctious kitty.
I needed something to calm my cat for trips to the vet. These utterly failed in relaxing him for the car ride. He loved the taste but multiple treats later found him as agitated as ever once we got into the vehicle. The directions on the bag say to give a cat one chew per 1 lb of weight for cats older than 6 months so that was his dosage. I followed the directions to no avail, giving the treats plenty of time to do their thing. My cat definitely approves of the taste, but as calming agents, I heartily disapprove. Since they're not meant to be treats I can't keep them around in that capacity. I'm not sure what to do with them other than toss them in the trash with the rest of the valueless refuse. I'm glad I at least gave PetHonesty Calming Chews a try as I now know what not to waste time and money on in the future. I'm going to ask the vet for suggestions in keeping my cat calm on rides instead of again experimenting with these or any other "calming" supplements.
Helpful for my FIP warrior
I had to give my cat daily injections for 12 weeks due to FIP. Any cat owner can imagine how that went every night. In my experience this treat helped when my cat was becoming tolerant to his gabapentin dose. We’d up his gabapentin & over a few days he’d get used to it. I didn’t want to max out the gaba dose too soon because this treatment is SO long. Sometimes I’d work in these treats & they’d give me a few extra days without upping the gaba. 1 treat per pound of body weight, (7lb cat = 7 treats) about an hour before injecting & kept him in a quiet, dark room. My cat is a FIGHTER but I could sometimes get the medicine in before he noticed. Obviously any cat will get tolerant to these, so do not overuse. Also should go without saying but these can not replace a sedative from the vet. In a pinch this treat can help.
No idea if they're effective, but they're good treats
I haven't seen any calming effect yet, but I haven't given as many treats as the bag wants you to for a serving (since treat servings are way too many to keep them healthy weights!). My cats love these treats, and they smell strongly of chicken so I'm not surprised. I haven't seen any tummy upsets or other problems. I'll try giving them more, but these are too expensive to keep buying if they're not calming my cats effectively.
Good product
Ladies and gentlemen, it appears that we have a winner! After trying two other products that my cats turned up their dainty noses at, Pet Honesty gets gobbled up at treat time. I have to guard Katie from one of my other cats who keeps trying to scam her out of her treats. Using this product and Feliway spray has led to less overgrooming, thank goodness. This is now part of my regular autoship.
Perfect for Long Road Trips!
I bought these for my 5 month old cat in anticipation of a 9-10 hour car ride and they worked perfectly! She liked the flavor so much that I had to hide the bag when we got home. One chew was enough for her to lay down in her carrier and take a nap (even though she’s five pounds so the recommended dose would be roughly 2 chews). All in all, I’d highly recommend these if you have a kitty that doesn’t love car rides. Combine these with a cozy, expandable carrier and you should be good to go!
Tasty, but that's it
I got these for one very socially anxious cat and one cat who needs frequent injections and vet visits. Both cats love the flavor and - for a while - they were working as a distraction for the cat who gets injections. Unfortunately, I have not seen any change in behavior for the socially anxious cat, and the med cat now refuses to eat them because he associates them with the injections. He takes one sniff and runs away. In conclusion: tasty treats, but ineffective for calming my kitties.
Our favorite!
We adopted our Freya from a lovely couple who couldn't have her anymore and we believe she might have not been socialized very well as everything made her so nervous, even after months of being with us. To help her ease into her new life I was looking for any tips and tricks and I'm so glad I came across these! I was so skeptical at first, but they had great reviews so I gave them a chance. It definitely took a bit, but I can tell they're working. After an hour or so of having these, she's a lot calmer and seems to explore more. She seems to like the taste too. Every time we rattle the treats she's the first in line! These will definitely stay in my auto ship!
Sleep
One of my cats wants us to acknowledge his existence at 3 am, for reasons unknown. I use to get up and give into to his demands. Going downstairs and giving him food, just to make the screaming stop. Now I roll over pull out five of these treats, and he shuts the heck up and cuddles, like the rest of the cats.
Very helpful treat
My cat loves these and it is a routine to give them to him after dinner so he will not be pacing around all night. He loves the taste and takes notice as soon as I pick up the bag. I have not given him as many as it recommended which would be 15. He has not had any side effects. He does seem to be more relaxed at night which was our goal for him.
Amazing
My cat is terrified of the car. About once a year I take my cats to my moms house that’s about two hours away. (Also the short trips to the vet) One of my cats is terrified of being in the car. He cries and scratches at the carrier the entire ride there and it breaks my heart to see him so stressed. I’ve tried multiple other calming supplements and some were just ok and others made him sick. These treats are a life saver, not only does he love the taste of them but they also work SO WELL. He went from crying the whole ride to peacefully laying down and will sometimes even take a nap.
