If I were to use the fountain indoors, would i still need to connect a water line?

This Fountain has an extra-large reservoir that holds 3.5 gallons of water and would not need to be connected to a water line.

Is there a lot of spillage when you refill the water?

When the reservoirs are turned upside down, they will start to leak water. As long as the reservoirs are positioned over the back of the fountain before flipping them over, there should be minimal splashing or spillage. It simply depends on how the reservoir is set on the fountain.

I've got two outdoor German Shepherds and am wondering if i could put ice in one or both of the reservoirs to provide cool water.

My two Great Pyrenees love this fountain. I plugged it in to the wall outside under a big pine tree to keep The water cool. The dogs found it and immediately began drinking. They’ll drink from bowls, but much prefer this. The large capacity ensured they were well hydrated on hot days in Idaho. I’m so pleased with this, I’m considering purchasing a smaller one, same brand, for my indoor cats.

I am impressed with the size of this water system and the filter system and how quietly it works. My dogs took to it right away. It was very very tricky to connect

I am impressed with the size of this water system and the filter system and how quietly it works. My dogs took to it right away. It was very very tricky to connect the cord to the adapter, the connecting prongs wanted to bend because it had to be held together so tightly to screw the connections together. I hope the company will work on this connection to make future water systems easier to connect.

Fatal Flaw- Find Another Fountain

This fountain has a good design for the capacity of water and combining a large capacity fountain with pump circulation. Fatal flaw is that in order to set up the pump, for some reason the company has not included a low voltage fountain pump and instead has the customer plug a two pronged adapter connection nto the wall plug. I tried doing this 10 times and the prongs for the low voltage adapter do not fit into the wall plug adaptor you need to connect it to to make it work. Infuriating design and a lack of thought for the customer who has to get this thing running. Why not include a low voltage pump that doesn't require an idiotic adapter? They are available at Lowe's for $23! See photos and please don't buy this fountain...or if you do, be prepared to buy an additional low voltage pump. This needlessly makes the total price to get it working $140.00.

Had to replace an older model Big Dog model that held 288oz. That model was pretty good, the pump locked into the fountain base and it operated pretty quietly. With such a great experience with Petsafe before I thought for certain this new model would be a great replacement. It certainly holds a lot water, but the sound of the pump is incredibly and overwhelmingly loud. It's unfortunate that they moved to a pump that just sits on top of the floor of the fountain because it vibrates so much that the entire base amplifies it. I have a feeling I'm going to return this product.

Stopped working within 2 months. I have taken it apart and put back together many times. Motor turns on as you can hear it (it is not quiet) but does not flow

Stopped working within 2 months. I have taken it apart and put back together many times. Motor turns on as you can hear it (it is not quiet) but does not flow water. I am so disappointed they discontinued parts for the Big Dog water system. Off to find yet another solution for my pets. I would not recommend because it is not easy to clean / take apart, semi loud and based on my experience does not last

This a re-deigned large dog water bowl by Drinkwell. I had 3 of the old style for almost 10 years. What I like about his one best is a few simple things. First and most important is that it hold almost 3 gallons of water- great for my four 70lb dogs. It is much easier to dis-assemble & re-assemble to clean. Has an additional filter to trap large particles ( also easy to get to and clean). Its made very well and has an easy to get to pump, with a more common style of pump, for replacement when the pump does eventually wear out over time. The two water reserve holders are also easier to handle and fill the old single one. Very pleased with it overall. A+!
