We were concerned that the door would 1. take up too much space and 2. not be quite big enough for our 60# tallish dog. It takes up the same amount of space as the old cat door, no more, and, would work for an ever larger dog, no problem. Also, went from box to functional in literally a few minutes.
This product is well made and fits perfectly. Great selection of opening sizes. I got for my son's dog who is older and is no longer able to go long periods of time without going outside. She had no trouble adjusting and loves spending time on the deck in the sun whenever she wants.
I purchased the medium size door for our 17-lb doodle. The door came well-packaged and sustained no damage. The installation instructions are pretty clear, and the installation took about 1-5 hrs. My door frame is exposed, so I affixed the dog door to that frame rather than use the brackets. I found that I needed to obtain several longer screws than the 1/2" ones provided to do the installation. One Youtube video of a novice installer helped avoid his mistakes, including remembering to ensure that the new door is plumb before locking in the top filler. If not, there could be big gaps between the sliding door and the dog door when you're done. Although there's a small notch at the bottom of the door that appears to be for resting on the track, I found that installing it inboard of the track worked better and allowed a much tighter seal against the weather. I ended up having to slightly adjust the slider that abuts the new door and add weather stripping between the doors to get a better seal. Also, the lock's keeper had to be removed for the same reason. Our dog learned how to use the door by herself within one day, using lots of coaxing and treats. Since it's winter now the plastic swinging door has become stiff, which sometimes prevents it from fully sealing after passing through. I expect that we'll need to slide in the rigid panel on cold, windy days. Overall, we're quite happy with the door and would recommend it to others who are tired of repeatedly having to open the door for their pooch.
This dog door is not as easy to install as they make it seem but with some extra weather stripping, it works well. For size reference, my 160 lb cane corso and 120 lb great dane can get in and out easily
The pet door was so easy to install, and the bronze color matched my sliding door perfectly. My cat, Zuzu, is learning to use it from our sunroom onto a new screened porch. It looks great, and works well. It's a great invention.
Not my first Rodeo with a Doggie Door. That said, this was SUPER easy for this old gal to install by herself with no problems. NONE. Our House is a late 1970's build with original sliders. My first doggie door the instructions said to place the rubber weather stripping on the doggie door. Ok so I did. Within a month we had rubbed it off just bumping it. Left it off. This time I placed it on the movable sliding door and it is still working after I believe 2 months. I did really clean the edge before placing the stripping on the door with Rubbing Alcohol, then I cleaned it again, 3 times. Was a sunny day so the warmth helped. Took our Mini/Toy Aussie many tries to get used to the movable entry but He got it. We love this Doggie Door. OH I also went up in size to the Large as friends bring over their Alaskan Malamute a couple times a year and I am hoping He fits thru it. Had a Raccoon Family show up just a few days after my Install, and was QUICK to get that Hard Door on the inside of the Doggie Door. Raccoon was looking right at the Door...I am just glad I woke up when I did and Motion Lights went on...woohoo....Problem diverted quickly.
I picked up a new Toy Poodle a couple weeks ago and the breeder had the coolest set up. She had finished a back porch into an extra room, for a kennel. This room was complete with a little doggy door and a beautiful fenced in play area. She kept the pups in their kennels at night and opened them during the day. All day long they, even the little puppies, ran in and out. I needed to do this, but I had a patio door! After searching the internet, i found several options. This option, from Chewy, looked like the best value. It is fantastic. My son helped me install it, but I could have done it myself. My new little 8 week old puppy, ran out the door, so all the others followed. Training done. Love, love, love this doggy door system.
The video makes it look easy and skips steps. It was very difficult. Huge gap at top after many adjustments to sliding door. Bottom bracket screw hole even with the glass so we were unable to use it and instruction book and video did not address it. The lock was impossible to figure out. With many rolls of insulation tape we finally got it in
I bought this as my husky feels the need to have our sliding glass door open 24/7. No, is not an answer for her. We had a magnetic screen door, and it worked great in the summer. However, as it gets colder, our dog is freezing me out!I got this, hoping it would be the perfect fit. Wrong! There were tons of gaps, one of the screws kept stripping, it was loose front to back, and the bottom T bar didn't fit. I made a lot of adjustments, including a ton of weather stripping. For the price, I was not happy with how much I had to do outside adjustments.
I was worried they wouldn't fit, the male is tall and over 100lbs. But they both fit and it's a life saver. No more getting up all the time to let them out they freedom to go outside whenever they want. The only downside is you loose a lot of your door but worth it.
