Questions & Answers

What's the difference to normal Q tips?

Answer by ChewyAug 25, 2020
The Petsmile Applicator Swabs have only one tip. The tip is woven cotton as opposed to cotton spun around the stem. The woven cotton will not unwind, and become loose. The stem is much longer than a Q-Tip. The added length helps to better reach and distribute Petsmile Professional Toothpaste to the back teeth.

Do you use the swabs with a toothpaste or on their own?

Answer by ChewyAug 11, 2020
This swab is intended to be used with toothpaste.

How many times can you reuse a single applicator swab?

Answer by ChewyMar 08, 2022
These swaps are reusable however, usage will vary. We always recommend inspecting the swab to determine if it is still in good condition for use.

can they break in the dogs mouth?

Answer by ChewyMar 10, 2023
The Applicator Swaps are made of plastic and can possibly break, depending on your pup's aggression. They should not be left in your pet's mouth.

Great for dogs with skinny mouths who hate toothbrush time

Our 55lb hound mix hates getting her teeth brushed, but tolerates these swabs. They work great for her narrow mouth, that typical toothbrushs have a hard time fitting

Our 55lb hound mix hates getting her teeth brushed, but tolerates these swabs. They work great for her narrow mouth, that typical toothbrushs have a hard time fitting in and reaching her back teeth. The swabs are good quality, so it's possible to rinse and reuse them a few times before having to throw the swab away. Definite repurchase!

Correct size, softness and shape brushing tinos teeth

Tino has sensitive gums. Pet tooth brushes are too hard. Cotton swabs fall apart. These are just right.

Dog use: These long skinny swabs are made to deposit the toothpaste on the teeth. My dogs are spaniel mix dogs with long jaws. These do a good job of introducing the toothpaste. They love the roasted chicken and the London broil flavors. You are only using a small pea size. These are NOT intended to be a toothBRUSH. The swab is like a woven spongy tip. There are NO BRISTLES. These are designed to APPLY the toothpaste, NOT a toothbrush. For a toothbrush I use a silicone baby toothbrush that will clean the teeth. Once your dog is used to the swab and toothpaste, a very soft toothbrush will likely be easier.

I try to brush my boy’s teeth at least twice to three times a week and am using these with a pearl size of cat toothpaste on the days I can’t brush-sometimes he gets a bit fussy and doesn’t want to be bothered, so these make it easy to swipe in a little bit of toothpaste, let his licking do the rest until the next day when we’ll brush. Then I simply toss the swab in the trash.

To big for his tiny mouth

There huge I should have known from the pictures but I wanted to try them as I was new to brushing his teeth. Turns out q-tips work best

I have a hard time using a tooth brush, even small cat ones for my dogs

I use the swabs with pet smile VOHC approved tooth paste. They are so much better than tooth brushes, which my dogs HATE!

Inventive

I wanted to love them but they were too skimpy and my dog panicked when I tried to use them in her tiny yorkie mouth. I may use them for something else

Might be good but..

Unfortunately Samie ended up with diarrhea after the first use. There is something in the gel that her system will not tolerate. Sad as she really could use some
