Puppies start to nibble solid foods at 3 - 4 weeks of age. Keep moistened Pro Plan available at all times. Allow your puppy to eat at will until fully weaned (6 - 8 weeks). After weaning, Pro Plan can be fed moistened or dry. For best results, develop a regular feeding schedule such as three small meals a day for younger puppies. You can gradually reduce to one feeding in the morning and one in the evening as your puppy ages. The routine should not vary.
As puppies near adulthood, their calorie needs may drop, and your puppy may begin leaving some food in the bowl. Don't misinterpret this as an indication of dislike for the food. Instead, begin offering less so your puppy doesn't overeat and stays in ideal body condition. Maintaining ideal body condition is key to encouraging proper growth in all puppies, especially large breeds.
The indicated amounts are only a guideline. If your puppy becomes overweight, a reduction of your puppy's daily food intake may be appropriate. You may wish to consult your veterinarian about a weight control program.
FEEDING FOR REPRODUCTION: Pro Plan provides the extra nutrition needed by reproducing females in stages of gestation and lactation. Food consumption may vary during gestation, so feed the amount needed to maintain the pregnant female's ideal body condition. Food intake may double or even quadruple during lactation. Contains a source of live (viable) naturally occurring microorganisms. Provide adequate fresh water in a clean container daily. For your pet's health, see your veterinarian regularly.
Making the Switch to Pro Plan: Although you'll be anxious to see the difference Pro Plan can make in your dog, please allow 7 - 10 days to ease the transition from your dog's current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Pro Plan until you're feeding Pro Plan exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets.
I have two purebred golden retriever pups that aren’t that picky when it comes to food. They have been on the puppy chow that the breeder was giving them and it was some really cheap stuff so I put them on Purina Pro chicken plan with the Chicken chunks in it and they would only eat it and enjoy it if it was the chicken formula with the Chunks in it lol. Recently I went to order the chicken bag like usual and it was out of stock and I wanted to switch it up for them anyway so I found they had this Lamb formula… today the package came in and I filled their dog dishes and mixed it with the last of the chicken formula that I had left… let’s just say it didn’t last long at all. They devoured both bowls of food and kept looking back at me as to say “thanks dad”. I will be switching them to something else when they get out of the puppy stage but I highly recommend this brand. I also see some reviews saying they had a bad batch, I have yet to experience this issue. Try it out, especially with a golden.
I have a golden doodle and this is the food the breeder use so I stick with it so far so good is a good as science hill just a lil bit cheaper my baby girls seems to like it very much , so is my senior yorkie lol the lamb flavor is for picky eaters so my yorkie is 16 so I let him have wherever he wants :)
My puppy seems to like this better than the salmon version. He is having more frequent and less hard poops! I did see something about a recall. Please let me know if it applies to this food.
Have a Bull terrier puppy/tri colored recommended by breeder. My last bull terrier was also tri colored. They as puppies seem to do well. My last one had the chicken and rice proplan and seemed to do well. I would check with my breeder or Veternarian what to fee, but I am happy with it
I took our puppies off Hills lamb and rice puppy and switched them over to pro plan lamb and rice puppy small bite ( cause they eat so fast ) and they just love this small kibble. Getting it from CHEWY was so fast it arrived a day early . Will be buying it and all my things from chewy from now on . Thanks Chewy
Purine Pro Plan for puppies was what our breeder recommended and our puppy has been doing very well with this food. She is still at the stage where she is fully food motivated, and hopefully she will continue to enjoy as she moves to the next stage.
Got a new puppy can started off with purina puppy chow but it kept giving him stomach issues till I made the switch to pro plan. He loves the lamb flavor and no more upset stomach
My pit mix has become fussy about her normal puppy food but with this, she eats healthy and her coat looks great. Very happy.
I got the lamb & rice instead of chicken & rice (which is what I've been feeding my pup) since other moms & dads gave great reviews. However, my little didn't care for it so I went to tge store and got him the chicken & rice.
The puppies love this food. I breed Cavaliers, so the size of the kibble matters. Even though this isn't labelled as being "small breed", but it's the same size as the Small Breed Puppy, which is what my puppies start on. When they're about 6 months old, I switch them to the ProPlan regular size puppy food. They really like the lamb.
