Transition Instructions

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

FAQ

Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?

We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.

How do I order veterinary diets?

  1. Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
  2. At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
  3. Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.

Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.

Do authorizations expire?

Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastrointestinal Canned Cat Food

    By on

we've been buying Science Diet EN from the vet and so i tried this is organic and what we bought isn't organic. this canned cat food EN is fishy smelling and i'm sure there are other reasons than that, my finicky 7 and a half year old kitty, Merrill, likes this food and i'm really happy she likes it because it's the only canned food she seems to like.

    RX foodfor kitties

My cat has been on EN food for years, and was starting to need a change. The EN naturals was different enough to get him eating right again. Glad there was another option.

    Damaged Box upon delivery

    By on

This box was heavily damaged on the corner. This damage to the box caused multiple cans to be opened, which means this box had to incur a massive impact. The open cans caused a horrendous odor. Also, when I opened many of the cans, the food looked old and smelled very bad. I was horribly disappointed as I would not feed this product to my cats unsure if it would make them sick :( I truly hope you will consider refunding this shipment, or ship a new box to me. My Cat still needs this prescription food. Thank You!

    Hates rice

    By on

Pico needs enteric food. The first variety contained rice which he and my other cat threw up undigested, so I had to grind it. UGH! I called and asked for an enteric wet food without rice. I was told that the Naturals contained no grain. I asked if that meant rice. Answer: no grain. Of course it contains grain (rice) and Pico throws it up.

    Freshest cat food out there

    By on

I always buy from Chewy because they are cheaper and the food is fresher and the delivery time is very fast. I have never been disappointed with any of their products. I chose this one because it was recommended by our vet. Our cat just had 6 teeth pulled and a broken jaw, so it was hard for him to eat. He had been eating and throwing up before he had his teeth pulled, but once we started him on this food he has not thrown up at all, He absolutely loves this food because it is so fresh not like the kind you purchase in the stores, that have been sitting on the shelves for a long time. Thanks chewy !!!! love all your products!!! keep up the good work.

    Best food ever.

    By on

My cats are so finicky but we have allergy issues so I had to change their food. Feel much better about feeding them GOOD food. When you actually look at the ingredients of store cat food, I see byproducts, water and somewhere at the very end it states chicken.

    Won't buy again

    By on

I tried this food because after the first day she would no longer eat the original EN and when I saw this had some fish I thought maybe the smell would interest my fur baby. It has been a struggle to get her to eat this food and I wish the cans were not so big because once they have been opened there is no way she wants the leftovers so most of a can ends up in the trash. I did finally get her to eat the dry version instead of the canned, but it really did not help her diarrhea at all. So expensive and bothersome for a product that did not help.
