Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Packaging was badly damaged :(
By Fifi on Jan 25, 2021
We placed our first order and it came super fast but the packaging was damaged terribly and the box was practically destroyed. The products appeared to be OK but if we had ordered anything small it would have been lost along the way. :( Hoping our next orders come in better shape or we will have to find an alternate option.

Dented cans
By Gommie on Feb 8, 2021
In every order there are cans that are dented so bad, I refuse to feed my dog the food in them. There were six cans in my last order, 3 in each box and this is not the first time it has happened, but I decided you need to know about this.

Canine Pancreatitis
By Murphy on Dec 14, 2020
This food has been a game changer. Our 14 yr old fur baby (he will be 15 years old in 3 months) was recently diagnosed with Pancreatitis. He was weak and could not/would not eat anything. After a few nights in the hospital, our vet prescribed this food for him. He now has pep in his step and actually looks forward to eating. There is not a drop of food left in his bowl, yet no vomiting!! Even his BMs are back to normal. I highly recommend this for any one dealing with Pancreatitis.

Absolutely Perfect!
By Harvey on Feb 3, 2021
Anything that makes my life easier is perfect. No more running to the store or the vet. Two clicks and Wallah, it's here the next day. I think Harvey is more grateful than I am.

Prescription GI food
By Suzanne on Jan 30, 2021
This might be a technically good food. I don’t know . I only know that I spent a lot of money for this prescription food and neither of my dogs will eat it. Do here it sits.

Good food but bad shipping
By Diana on Dec 31, 2020
The food is a really good and filling canned food that my dogs do really well on. The shipping destroyed the box it came in and dented most of the cans. I can only hope that the food inside is ok.

Good stuff
By cindarbug on Jan 19, 2021
My dogs love this food. It came recommended by my vet, but my two dogs can't wait to eat when I get out the can. Hopefully it's good for their gut too.

Longtime purchaser
By Olivia on Oct 11, 2020
My dog is on low fat diet and getting older so for the past two year I’ve been mixing this with his dry food. Just this year it seems every time I receive a new case the consistency is different ranging from “cut with a knife” firm to being able to spoon it out like yogurt. It’s strange, it still looks the same, smells the same and my dog loves it, it’s just odd that a scripted food isn’t consistently the same.

Bella Loves it!
By dkaustin on Sep 14, 2020
Our dog has had a chronic vomiting issue since her first rabies shot.....NEVER AGAIN!!!! We have struggled to find a food that she can eat without irritating her. This food was it! The only pain is A) it is ridiculously expensive and B) you have to have vet approval to obtain it. A little silly considering it is dog food and not a medication. NO matter, our pup enjoys it and it is what we will continue to buy.
