If my dog is allergic to chicken can I still get the chicken flavor?
Answer by ChewyAug 05, 2019
Since this dog food contains Hydrolyzed Chicken Liver and Hydrolized Chicken, it is not recommended to feed to dogs with allergies or an intolerance to chicken. Each pet is unique so we encourage you to seek professional guidance to select the best products along with their current health.

Is a prescription needed to order this food?
Answer by ChewyJun 24, 2018
This food requires a veterinary prescription. It won't ship until a copy of a valid prescription authorization is faxed to 1-800-619-7973 or e-mailed to vetdiet@chewy.com.

I thought garlic was supposed to be bad for dogs. Why does this formula contain garlic oil?
Answer by ChewyNov 18, 2018
Many people believe that garlic is harmful to dogs, and in large, concentrated doses this can be true. However, in the proportions that we use, it is highly beneficial to heart health, acts as a natural flea repellent, an antioxidant and anti-bacterial ingredient. Just like with humans, many things are healthy (and indeed necessary) in small doses but potentially harmful in large, concentrated doses.

Miracle Dog Food

I’m convinced that this food saved my dog’s life. He was diagnosed with Protein Loss Enteropathy (PLE) in January 2022. He had lost almost 1/2 of his body weight from January to May. He had so many tests done, MRI’s, a needle biopsy and many, many meds. After many, many meds, putting him on a different prescription dog food, and blood tests every 2 weeks, my wonderful vet decided it was time to refer him to internal medicine. The internal med doc, cut back the antibiotics and reduced his prednisone significantly then we monitored for another 2 weeks. Not much improvement. So she decided to change his dog foot to Purina HA. Went back after 2 weeks for more blood work and he showed signs of improvement. So she decided to cut his prednisone even further, he went from 20 mg a day to 7.5 to 5. So at this point he was only on 5 mg of of Prednisone and strictly this food only, no treats. Let me tell you, he went from weighing 7.9lbs and had lost most of his fur on May 24 to 11.4 lbs on July 27 and his fur is growing back like crazy!!! He probably weighs even more now. I’m forever grateful. He’s making a complete come back! I’m utterly shocked! Thank you, Purina.

works wonders on my dog

following very strictly the plan, no cheat days no little even minimal anything other than this pro plan vet diet food, ALL the allergies my dog had disappeared. It took 5 months to clear and it works. The only addition is broccoli to enhance his stools. The other vet diet brands gave him bad breath this new brand handled it completely.

Veterinary nurse

Recent received a bag of food with a mechanical pencil and piece of wood in it! You can imagine my concern for foreign objects in the food. My dog has done well with this food and as a veterinary nurse I often recommend and discuss it's benefits. This will no longer be the case. I am Very disappointed and concerned with quality the control.

This food saved our dogs life!

Our dog developed severe and chronic pancreatitis. It would not go away and every time we would think we would be in the clear, it came back. He had lost his spirit and more than half of his weight and couldn’t gain it back. We had tried everything. Every brand of food, raw diets, fresh cooked chicken and rice, and nothing was helping. We were at a point where the vets didn’t even know how to help him. But I wasn’t willing to quit looking for help. So I sought help from another vet, and she ran all the same tests and her theory was that MAYBE he was allergic to the meat and/or just couldn’t process it. So she told me to try this food to test her theory and I’ll admit I wasn’t too keen on it because I had heard horror stories surrounding Purina. But I was willing to try anything. So, we switched him to this food and within a week he was better. He started gaining his weight back, and regained his strength and energy. He was finally back to himself. I can’t even tell you how much I cried in pure relief and excitement. He has now been on this diet for two years and we will never take him off of it. It is pricey, but it’s worth it to keep him happy and healthy. Like I said before, I was weary of Purina before this and now we have both of our dogs on Purina diets. I can never thank Purina enough for saving our boy.

Girls liked it but difficult to chew

I would’ve given the dry food 5 stars if the kibbles were smaller. I have two small girls and one of them had teeth extractions. I have to smash the kibbles in order for her to be able to eat them. They love the kibbles but would prefer that a smaller kibble be offered.

6 months of success

Started my lab on HA Hydrolyzed Chicken Dry in February. 2 different vets recommended it for his food intolerance that started at 4 yrs. It works. Period! I try to keep a small ziplock bag of it in what once held "treats". Now his treats are a small handful of this and if he eats anything else it is trouble. I wish he could be more "normal", but that is not going to happen. However, normal can be achieved by keeping him on this diet.

This food has cured my dog from itching!

My dog has been suffering for about a year with constant scratching. I tried probiotics (didn’t work). So my vet gave me some samples and she and I liked it. It worked almost immediately. She’s been on it for about 10 days and now has almost stopped scratching. 10 stars!

Terrible Delivery

The delivery person left the gate to our yard open and our dogs ran away. I just spent the past half hour driving around the neighborhoods trying to find them. Tell your drivers, If you had to open the gate to make the delivery, then close the gate!

Miss Picky Eater Likes Her Food

I'm trying the HA Hydrolyzed Chicken flavor to control Little Zoey's food allergies. It's too soon to see if it will be effective, she's only been on it for 2 weeks. The biggest hurdle is she likes it! She is a picky Shih Tsu, and she eagerly awaits her dinner and gobbles it up.

Luna loves

Luna IS a saint Bernard who is suffering from PLE. Luna absolutely loves this food, and that says a lot. Since she never ate any food without human food. She even ate a bowl without anything added, just warmed in the microwave for 15 seconds. The kibble is small enough that it fits in her treat ball, so she can have her treats which are very important to her. My only complaint with this food is the cost but we do what we have to do. Unfortunately this food isn't helping as much as it could so the doctor has changed the food. I am praying that Luna likes new the new food as much.
