Questions & Answers

Is this food currently being vacuum-sealed to retain freshness?
Answer by ChewyMay 30, 2022
While none of the Royal Canin bags are vacuum sealed, the bags can have this appearance from time to time due to the manufacturing process. Royal Canin bags are flushed with nitrogen to eliminate oxygen within the bags, as oxygen breaks down the natural preservatives. If the kibble is still hot when the nitrogen is flushed into the bag, the heat from the kibble can react with the nitrogen and cause the packaging to shrink down around the kibble giving off a vacuum sealed appearance. There is nothing harmful about this, it's just an anomaly that we can sometimes see. Bags that have more of a "pillow" appearance, like a bag of potato chips, are equally as fresh as the bags described above. The only concern we would have would be if the bag was damaged allowing oxygen to penetrate and cause the food to spoil. Dry food has a shelf life of 18 months after manufacturing as long as it has not been opened. After opening, a bag can stay fresh for up to 2 months with proper storage.

How many cups of kibble are in each 30lb bag?
Answer by ChewyOct 15, 2019
There will be approximately 4 cups of kibble per pound. The 5.5 pound bag will have close to 22 cups, the 17 pound bag close to 68 cups and the 30 pound bag close to 120 cups.

What kind of grains are in this formula?
Answer by ChewyJan 03, 2020
This formula is not grain-free. If your pet has a grain sensitivity or allergy it would not be recommended. It contains rice, wheat flour, wheat, maize gluten and barley.

What is the ash content?
Answer by ChewyOct 13, 2022
At this time, Royal Canin does not measure the ash content for this recipe.

Give it a try if your dog is picky!

My dog (Great Pyrenees mix) has gotten annoyingly picky but loves this food. She is a big dog but doesn't like the huge kibbles of the Royal Canin large breed formulas, so the medium size is the winner for us. She has been eating it enthusiastically and it's great for her sensitive stomach. Her stools are well formed and not as stinky. My Yorkie (also an extremely picky eater) has eaten the small breed version of this for a few years. I've tried dozens of brands but this is the one I have the best results with. My dogs love to eat it and they are at a healthy weight, have shiny coats, and no weird stomach issues. There are also ZERO crumbs in Royal Canin foods. The bag is completely empty when you scoop out the last piece of kibble. Worth the cost!

Vet tech approved!

I'm a vet tech who's been in the biz for over 30 years and I LOVE Royal Canin foods, for many reasons. Most of the science behind ALL pet foods has been developed by Royal Canin, and they source all their ingredients from North America, which has resulted in far fewer food recalls than the other major players. All my pets have been on Royal Canin foods for over a decade. Both my current dogs, a husky mix and a sheltie mix, had GI issues. One didn't eat well and the other vomited at least once every other day. Since starting this GI food, no more vomiting, no stinky dog gas, and completely normal formed stools. Win!!

I wish this was not out of stock in perpetuity

I have a dog who has lymphoma and this food has been one of the few things he would eat while on chemo. I’ve tried other brands, but this one is the best. It seems it’s the manufacturer that is not keeping up with the demand. Chewy please speak to RC and get this top notch food back in stock

The Very Best

We have been feeding Royal Canin food for many years and to several different breeds including Pug, Newfoundland, Aussies and Aging Cat Over 12 Years . They all loved their food! I had been feeding the medium dog formulation to our two Aussies most recently and switched to this special digestive type and and they absolutely gobbled it up! No wonder— it smells great! One of them is extremely finicky and she will eat this food dry without any other mix ins! Usually there’s a lot of coaxing and waiting for her to eat. It was like a miracle! We always have people compliment on how shiny and beautiful our dogs are. They are happy and healthy.

Finally something that helps!

I’ve searched high and low for something that my boxers can tolerate. This is the first food that my girl has not vomited. And she has quit eating so much grass. My boy has quit killing us with horrible gas and his poops have firmed up. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive. Now I just need to get some weight on them!

Perfect for dogs with sensitive stomachs

Our mini bernadoodle has a very sensitive stomach and could not tolerate switches to other foods. The Royal Canin digestive care has been PERFECT for her, she loves it too!

Classy company

We were on an autoship with Chewy for Royal Canin. I had to call recently to tell them that our sweet dog had passed away. They were so sweet and said how sorry they were for our loss. Today we had a flower delivery, it was a dozen beautiful assorted roses. It was from Chewy with a sweet note about how sorry they were for the loss of our pet. Classy company. Thank you so much for going above and beyond.

Sensitive stomachs

Our German Shepard developed pneumonia after a bout of Kennel Cough at the daycare. She wound up in the hospital, on IV antibiotics, not eating, barely drinking. After 5 days, she finally was well enough to come home and finish her antibiotic treatments at home for two more weeks. The antibiotics wiped out a lot of the good bacteria in her gut, and it became extremely irritated resulting her developing intolerance to her normal foods. She already had some sensitivities, but this was so much worse. Finally with probiotics, stool firming additives, and a prescription food from the veterinarian, she started having normal bowel movements, a good appetite, and back to herself. The vet had put her on one of the Royal Canine prescription formulas, which is very expensive. But I was terrified of trying anything else. She had reacted to her prior food as soon as I began to mix it in with the vet diet. So I finally tried the non prescription diet for digestive care from Royal Canine. I had to blend and switch over slowly, but she did wonderfully on the non prescription diet to the point I was able to switch all the way over. We almost lost our girl to pneumonia and then dehydration and malnutrition. Thanks to Royal Canine we have our girl happy and healthy and in need of actually having to lose a few pounds now.

3 yo Boxer finally eating all her food and peppy

Our boxer was never a foodie, tried multiple foods through the years. It was a struggle to give her medication daily. She would eat half her food and leave it, always heard stomach rumbling. Since she started this digestive food now on week 3, she eats ALL her food, she is peppier, no stomach rumbles, no eating grass, we just toss her pills in her food and she takes them instead of picking them out. She is putting on weight, the only complaint is we did not know about the digestive care food prior. She was eating the RC Boxer food prior.
