We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.
How are Royal Canin diets preserved?
All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.
Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?
We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?
Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?
Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.
How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?
Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.
How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?
Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.
Why Pure Breed Dogs Need Tailored Nutrition
From their personalities to their distinctive physiologies, pure breed dogs have unique characteristics that make them sought-after and beloved companions. When choosing a formula, it's important to keep in mind the unique characteristics of your breed including:
Face and Jaw: All dogs fall into two basic jaw types: Brachycephalic or mesocephalic. Breeds with short, broad muzzles (like Bulldogs) are examples of a brachycephalic jaw. Breeds with a longer muzzle (like Labrador Retrievers) are examples of mesocephalic breeds. The jaw type, and even biting patterns can affect how a breed picks up kibble.
Skin Types: The skin's most important function is to serve as a barrier of protection-but not all breeds have the same skin type. From wrinkled and folded (which traps heat and moisture) to sensitive or water resistant, precise levels of key nutrients help to support a breed's unique skin health needs.
Distinctive Coats: There's more to a coat than meets the eye. From the color and texture to undercoats, each pure breed dog has a unique coat with unique needs.
Breed Specific Formulas
Every dog is unique. From the small, flat-faced Pug to the obesity-prone Labrador Retriever, Royal Canin Breed Health Nutrition is tailor-made to address the unique needs of pure breed dogs. These breed specific formulas benefit from the latest Royal Canin research on the selection of the best protein sources, unique nutrients and tailor-made kibbles.
Formulated for Golden Retrievers
Royal Canin's Golden Retriever Adult Dry Dog Food is designed exclusively for pure breed Golden Retrievers over 15 months.

Healthy skin & coat: Food plays an important part in maintaining skin and coat health. Golden Retriever Adult Dry Dog Food supports the skin's role as a barrier with an exclusive complex of nutrients, and maintains skin and coat health.
Healthy cardiac function: Golden Retrievers are prone to cardiac sensitivity. This formula contains specific nutrients including taurine, EPA and DHA to help support healthy cardiac function.
Ideal weight: Excess weight gain can affect the health of Golden Retrievers, so an appropriately balanced food is necessary for their health. This exclusive formula helps maintain an ideal weight.

Exclusive Kibble
Golden Retrievers have a straight muzzle and teeth that meet in a scissors bite. The kibble size, shape and texture in Golden Retriever Adult Dry Dog Food is designed specifically for this breed and encourages them to chew.

Why Royal Canin?
Over time, Royal Canin has accumulated vast knowledge about cats and dogs that only extensive research, scientific study and tireless talks with pet professionals, veterinarians and owners can provide. That knowledge led them to develop precise nutrition for cats and dogs. Each Royal Canin formula is tailored to pets' size, age, lifestyle and breed and contains more than 50 perfectly balanced nutrients for the most effective diet possible.
Their focus on science puts pets at the heart of the formulation process, choosing only ingredients that optimize the food's nutritional content. Royal Canin also continues to invest heavily in new technology to ensure their quality and food safety systems remain state-of-the-art, so pets can continue to benefit from the latest in food health and nutrition.

Good dog food!
By Jake on Feb 10, 2021
Our dog appears to really like this food. He has allergies and although still has them this food seems to reduce some of the itching. He is 4 years old and has been a little more active since we switched. We have been told that this is the Cadillac of dog food. My only complaint is the cost. Wish it was less expensive, but this is a good product!

Overpriced
By Joey on Jan 30, 2021
The ingredients aren’t even that good to justify the $70 charge. Yes it’s specialized for your dog breed, but there’s brands with much higher quality ingredients than this and it’s way cheaper. Besides my dog doesn’t even like this food and I have to mix it with water or other things for him to eat it. Not worth it and not as magical as they make it sound

We love This!
By ZeldaAndJess on Jan 8, 2021
Zelda is going on 3, and we've tried a lot of foods, this is by far the best one for her! Her coat is shiny and healthy, she LOVES the taste, I noticed since switching she's had no UTIs (Which was a common Problem. Very happy, and will feed to all future golden babies!

Golden food
By Sjean on Feb 2, 2021
This is very good food and my dog liked it a lot . She developed kidney issues so we had to change her diet. It wasn’t due to this food. Royal Canin is a trusted brand. I’ll be switching to their renal diet dog food .

Royal Canin Golden Retriever
By Sailor on Jan 14, 2021
We are in the process of changing Sailor back to Royal Canin because we tried to find something comparable for a lower price. So I am adding 5 nuggets to his food and that’s the first thing he eats!

I Love Chewy
By GreatFood on Nov 27, 2020
I consulted with the Chewy representative and she was outstanding. Asked questions, understood my needs and we selected the right food. Nellie inhales her food and I had hoped these giant pieces would slow her down but they didn’t. She loves the food though and it’s doing everything it said it would.

Royal Canin
By BoomersDad on Jan 28, 2021
Our dogs deserve the best we can afford. Chewy helps hold the cost down and ships on-time and free with a larger purchase. Hard to beat.

By Pocadon1st on Feb 11, 2021
This Royal Canin food is expensive but my dog can't get enough. It's like a bowl of treats without all the garbage.

My dog loves this!
By Lidia on Jan 15, 2021
Switched from Purina Pro Plan which my Golden Retriever didn't love, she would leave the food in her bowl all day. Now she eats like it tastes great!

Wish I could get the formula I want.
By RoyalCanin on Jan 1, 2021
I really want the Royal Canin Sensiitive Skin dog food but Chewy hasn’t been able to supply it for a few months. They have it at Petsmart. Why not at Chewy?
