About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Dogs

Royal Canin, incredible in every detail. Tailored nutritional solutions for gastrointestinal health.
Acute or chronic? If your Veterinarian thinks your pet has a gastrointestinal issue, they may classify it as acute or chronic. Acute conditions appear suddenly and deteriorate rapidly. Chronic conditions develop over time and may worsen gradually.

Worried About Your Dog’s Digestion?

Your dog’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Dog’s GI System

  1. Stomach: the first part of the GI tract, where inflamation may lead to vomitting.
  2. Small Intestine and Pancreas: where the small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients within the diet and the pancreas aids in digestion; inflamation of the pancreas may be cause by a high fat diet or treats.
  3. Large Colon (Tranverse): which is responsible for forming stool.
  4. Large Colon (Descending): which is responsible for forming stool; any alteration to this process may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  5. Rectum: where stool leaves the body

How Nutrition Can Help

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin GI formula that is

Easily digestible to help reduce the load on the gastrointestinal tract

Formulated with omega-3 fatty acids, EPA, and DHA to aid digestive health and antioxidants to support a healthy immune system

Highly palatable to encourage eating, even when appetite is decreased due to gastrointestinal upset

Balanced for good digestion, with a blend of fibers and prebiotics to support digestive health

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

How do you cancel the auto-ship?

If an open can is recommended to be used with in 48 hours how can it be used for small dogs that don’t consume that much food that quickly ? That would be a lot of unused food, wasted, that’s very expensive. Why dont you make the smaller cans for smaller dogs ?

Answer by OllieDec 30, 2025
My dog is 9 pounds and the vet recommended him eat half a can a day, so I use it up in 48 hours. But I got a can lid for it to stay fresh

how long will an opened can of this dog food be safe in the fridge?

Answer by ChewySep 02, 2021

My 3 year old cocker has tried Nutro, Spot&Tango, and Sunday's for Dogs... each of these foods were items she liked at first but very quickly would reject. After a month of Sunday's (literally) she developed pancreatitis so we had to change her food to this prescription food... she loves it. It is expensive, but so is the Vet... She has been on this food for almost 2 weeks and each time I put her bowl down she cleans it out. Her inflammation is gone and she is once again a healthy and happy cocker. I recommend this food for those who have dogs prone to gastrointestinal upset. Her bowel movements are less frequent smaller, but healthy. I also purchased the gastrointestinal treats and she loves those too. Priority one is her health and this brand and formula is working.

I am utterly disappointed in the cans of food that i have received from my most recent order. It was bad enough i kept getting dented cans but now im getting cans with rust and moldy white spots on top of them. This food is not cheap. It would be great if i could receive the same quality of food that i pay for. Of 24 cans, I’m only willing to open and feed to my dog 13 of them. I am canceling my automatic shipments for a while. If i decide to come back, i hope you all will have better quality control over your products.

While I do not like the ingredients of prescription food, I had no choice but to use this food (pureed) for the 7 weeks my fur-boy had a feeding tube in place after spending a week in ICU and not eating while in ICU. My fur-boy will not eat this fresh out of the can (I don't blame him). I have a case and half left over, so I am going to donate the unused cans to a local rescue. But this food helped keep my boy going until the feeding tube came out and he started eating carefully made homemade food again.

I just came back from walking all the way to the street. It is a long way for me to walk. I’m 72 years old andthis box was just tossed out into a snowbank right by the road like it was nothing. This weekend FedEx driver is disgusting. This is the second time this has happened not from you guys, but I’m very unhappy with that but I am very happy with Chewey and the food. I’ll have to be careful when I order so that I don’t get a Saturday delivery. That was a very heavy box for me to try and push all the way to my house again it’s not your fault Chewey it is FedEx weekend driver

We almost lost Auggie to a severe case of acute pancreatitis. He was so sick, weak and just did not have the spark that makes him so special. At a time when everything else seemed stressful, it was so easy to get his prescription diet delivered quickly. It took a while, but he is now back to his old self and he enjoys the food, too.

Very happy with how our elderly Yorkie mix is enjoying this food. She has recurring health issues related to her pancreas. When we first rescued her, she suffered from diarrhea every two weeks to three weeks. Since we put her on this food, we've been able to stretch that to every three or four months. Definitely worth it!

Delivery and Chewy in general are great! Consistency of product less firm.

The consistency of the canned Royal Canin has been much less firm and more watery. We’ve noticed this for the past 8 months or so. It seems like possible shrinkflation

My dog loves!!

My pups developed pancreatitis from consuming a new food which had too much fat for their sensitive stomachs. Of course you can imagine my hooror when this happened

My pups developed pancreatitis from consuming a new food which had too much fat for their sensitive stomachs. Of course you can imagine my hooror when this happened. It was a very costly mistake. However, the vet recommended this diet, and we are thrilled. They both enjoy this food, and mealtimes are no longer a challenge. I am getting bowls licked clean, and so grateful for no longer having to try different diets. Very happy dog mom and pups.
