About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Dogs

Worried About Your Dog’s Digestion?

Your dog’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Dog’s GI System

  1. Stomach: the first part of the GI tract, where inflamation may lead to vomitting.
  2. Small Intestine and Pancreas: where the small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients within the diet and the pancreas aids in digestion; inflamation of the pancreas may be cause by a high fat diet or treats.
  3. Large Colon (Tranverse): which is responsible for forming stool.
  4. Large Colon (Descending): which is responsible for forming stool; any alteration to this process may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  5. Rectum: where stool leaves the body

How Nutrition Can Help

Talk to your vet about your concerns for your pet's GI tract health. Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin GI formula that is:

Easily digestible to help reduce the load on the gastrointestinal tract

Formulated with omega-3 fatty acids, EPA, and DHA to aid digestive health and antioxidants to support a healthy immune system

Highly palatable to encourage eating, even when appetite is decreased due to gastrointestinal upset

Balanced for good digestion, with a blend of fibers and prebiotics to support digestive health

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

How do I get a prescription ?
Answer by ChewyJun 22, 2019
Our Vet Diet team will personally contact your vet for approval. If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we’ll let you know immediately. If you have a paper copy of your prescription, email a picture to vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat, or fax your prescription to 1-800-619-7973.

How big are the pieces of kibble? I have a small breed senior dog 8 pounds & wondering about the kibble size & if it is OK for smaller dogs. Thanks!!
Answer by ChewyFeb 15, 2018
The kibble can vary in size but is approximately half of an inch.

Is high fiber the same as the fiber response? My dog has a very sensitive GI tract and she needs what she has been eating which is the fiber response.
Answer by ChewyDec 13, 2020
Due to your individual pets specific health concern, we recommend consulting your Veterinarian to see what would be the safest fit for your pets current treatment plan.

Is this GI fiber response diet high fiber or low residue? My pet’s vet recommended a low residue diet.
Answer by ChewyMay 07, 2018
This is not a low-residue food, since it contains high levels of insoluble fiber.

Hate feeding her this but it works

I wish Royal Canin made a food without junk like brewers rice, but they don’t. I can’t knock a star off due to the ingredients though because that information is readily available; if you can’t get over the ingredients don’t feed this to your dog. The reason I have been feeding Luna this food for over a year, and will continue to do so, is that it works absolute wonders. Last year, poor little dood was in and out of the ER all the time with horrible diarrhea and vomiting. She would hardly eat and was borderline underweight. Nonstop grass chomping. When she wasn’t having diarrhea, her stools still were never normal. After so many trips to the vet (and so much money), the vet finally prescribed this. Total game changer. I don’t think she’s had diarrhea once since going on this food, her stools are normal, she has a great appetite, and is just a happier dood. I tried switching her off RC when it was recently out of stock in the larger size. I had been wanting to try something different because, again, I despise the ingredients. Her stomach is clearly bothering her on the new food and her appetite is poor; the writing is on the wall and I am not going to wait for the diarrhea to return! I’m back to buy this and will probably keep her on it for life.

Did the trick

He suffered from bloody diarrhea for over a month becoming anemic. He had been on Purina hydrolyzed protein kibble for 7 years without issue and suddenly wouldn't eat it. Tried the canned version and he hated it. He would throw it up when force-fed. Resorted to boiled chicken and rice which he would eat in small amounts but that did not help his symptoms. Once we started this food he gobbled it down immediately and within a few days his stools returned to normal without any blood. He loves the food and it's giving him the nutrients he needs so for me that justifies the high price. Fortunately, he is a 13 lb toy poodle so a bag goes much further than it would with a larger breed. I'm no longer spending portions of every day mopping floors or washing out pads.

Excellent food

My geriatric dog is on another Royal Canin low fat moist food due to pancreatitis. On that food she was having issues with her stool being too soft. My vet added this high fiber food, which apparently only comes in kibble. I give this to my dog as a mid-day meal and the moist for breakfast and dinner. She loves the taste and it has done the job in the potty department! She does drink much more water with it, so ensure your dogs water bowl is fresh each day and they are able to relieve themselves more than usual. Royal Canin continues to be the industry leader in specialized RX diets! We are so thankful for them. :-)

Saved the Day

After a critical illness our girl wouldn't eat. MSU Vet Hospital said to feed her this. She finally ate. Now we feed her this each day to keep her system at ease. Cost is to high though but what are you going to do?

Great Food for a dog that needed help

My dog had been sick and my vet recommended this food. His shipment was delayed and I was so happy Chewy sold it and I got it when I needed it. MY dog loves this food, and it has helped with his digestion issues. I highly recommend this food, if your dog has stomach issues

Best food for my dog

My dog has a sensitive stomach and the doctor had prescribed this food her almost 2 years ago and we haven't changed since. Chewy offers the larger sized bag and at a slight discount per pound than the vet clinic. Ordering with chewy rx is super easy and typically gets approved within the next 24 hours.

Royal Canin Presription

Amazing customer service, taking care of the Vet contact thru delivery. Did I mention saving $12 per bag which is important since the largest bag is only 16 lbs. and two 25 lb dogs eating this.
