Transition Instructions

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Does this dog food cause the dog to drink more water?

How large are the pieces of food? My dog needs tiny bite-size pieces due to missing some teeth and this doesn’t show a picture or describe the size of it at all

The feeding guide only goes up to 88lbs. Is this not for big dogs? Are they guidelines that go up through 120lbs, or is it simple calculation using lower weights?

PLEASE go back to the velcro seal

This review is for the bag itself, not the food. These bags used to have a velcro type seal that worked very well; now they have a zip lock which is barely adhered to the plastic of the bag, so that it peels away from the bag instead of opening the zip lock, leaving the bag unsealable. For what this food costs, I expect a little more care in the manufacturing of the bag. Since they switched from the velcro seal, EVERY BAG, no matter how carefully I open it, has the zip lock peel away from the bag. Can you not afford a better glue or something? Go back to the velcro. If it's a few more cents to manufacture, then add it to the price of the bag. I'd rather pay a few more pennies than have to struggle with keeping the food fresh. Never have I seen such shoddy manufacturing of a simple bag of food.

So far, so good

My little terrier/poodle mix has symptoms of chronic pancreatitis and is on a low fat diet. This food seems to be helping, and the best part is that he likes it more than the kibble he seemed to like best before! Chewy was great about contacting the vets for the necessary permission, and the shipping was fast. My only negatives are the price and the need for a veterinarian's permission. Why would anyone buy such expensive dog food unless they had a good reason? And could one bag of this food (bought by someone who wanted to check its effects) actually harm a dog that didn't need a low fat diet?

Very good for sensitive stomachs!

My Miniature American Shepherd is 6 & had stomach issues since he was 2. Have tried so many other top brands & spent tons of $$$. It took some time experimenting, but finally found the right balance to keep his stomach & stool normal. The chunks are big (he would vomit it up when I just gave the kibble & it clearly hadn’t been digested at all). So now I put a few scoops in my food processor to break it down. I add a spoonful of overcooked white rice, a bit of cooked ground bison, peas/carrots & a scoop of the ground up Royal CANIN & add a bit of water when I mix it altogether. It’s a lot to do, but well worth it to keep him healthy and happy!!!

Springer Spaniel feels better

My veterinarian prescribed Royal Canin Gastrointestinal dog food for for my 11 year old English Springer Spaniel. He was having problem digesting his food and was loosing weight. I find this new food to be well received by my dog and worth the expense to make him comfortable and healthy.

Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat

This product has been keeping my old Maltese healthy for more than a year now. We do crush the kibbles for him as they are too large for a small breed dog with few teeth left, but beside that he really likes it.

Royal cabin veterinary diet dog food

My pup is a tiny 6 pound dog who unfortunately has diabetes and pancreatitis. Her vet recommended this and she love it with her boiled chicken treat on top and she is a picky little one
