We recommend at least a 7-day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. About Royal Canin Veterinary Diets - Dermatological Line

Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?

Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?

Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your dog's coat. Skin issues in dogs can be due to food sensitivities and environmental irritants.

About Food Sensitivities

Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a dog of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

About Food Sensitivities

Signs of Food Sensitivity

Sensitivities to the proteins in your dog's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.

What About Enviromental Irritants

What About Enviromental Irritants

Like you, your dog can have sensitivities to certain things in the environment such as pollens, house dust or even fleas. Your veterinarian may recommend a diet that contains optimal amounts of vitamins and nutrients which helps reinforce your dog's skin barrier.

  • Kibbles too big

    By on

My rat terrier is a 9 pound small dog and these kibbles are too big. It looks like she likes it but because of the size she doesnt eat all of it. I also mix it with the wet food(pw) to get the kibbles to soften so she could bite into it in order for her to swallow. Royal Canin makes the kibbles too big for small dogs. The hydrolyzed protein kibbles and ultamino are perfect size for small dogs but unfortunately those didnt work out for various reasons.

  • Recomended by my Vet

    By on

My dog has been suffering with allergies for the past three years. We have tried all types / ingredients to help her suffering. She is currently on a three month trial with this dog food. I am hoping to stop the monthly cytopoint injections, if this food helps. She seems to like the food. I will check back with you all in 3 months.

  • Kibble Too Big For Senior

    By on

The kibble is way too large for my elderly staffordshire terrier. He was not too excited to eat this even after we crushed it and added some wet food. After eating a little for a few days, he still has horrible stomach issues. Our other large pit mix -who is super picky- does love this food. We were surprised. Hopefully this will help him with his allergies and digestive issues.

  • Food Helps Bulldog Allergies

    By on

This food was recommended by my vet as a part of my bulldog's allergy food trial. It has helped tremendously. The only thing is the pot/rabbit food seems to constipate my pup. I did switch to the pot/whitefish and she seems to be just fine now. A little pricey, but a lot less expensive to give her the food versus several trips to the vet for allergy issues.

  • My Westies love it!

After trying various other brands of limited ingredient, my Westies enjoy this brand and have fewer side effects of digestive or bowel discomforts

  • Perfect formula for my dog, but...

    By on

The ingredients in this formula is great for my 13 year old, sensitive wheaten, but the kibble is too large for her to chew. I gave this product 4 stars only because I have to break down its size with a hammer, otherwise it would be a perfect 5 stars! :)

  • Dog loves this food!

    By on

My dog has a skin allergy and his skin was extremely broken out. I began feeding him Royal Canin and his skin started to heal immediately. He has been eating it for two weeks and he has almost completely healed. Most definitely worth the money!

  • Service result

    By on

I am very happy to have ordered this product through Chewy. My pet has been eating this product for years, but this is the first time that I get it from Chewy. The service is excellent because I can get this food and have it brought to my home, saving time for me and also, a good and reasonable price. I am very satisfied. Thank you.

  • Bites are too big...

    By on

My dog didn't care for this one but yours might. The nuggets are too big for a smaller dog like mine.

  • Good food, but pricey and hasn't made any changes in our dog.

    By on

We bought this food at the recommendation of our vet as our Harley seemed to be struggling with a possible food allergy. We bought the food, which was very expensive, but we haven't seen any changes in our dog nor any improvements in her skin condition or suspected allergies. We won't be buying this again and feel as though this food may be overrated.
