Worried About Your Dog’s Skin Health?

Skin health concerns are common and can appear anywhere on your dog’s body. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog’s health, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best solutions for your pet. This specialized expertise is why Royal Canin works closely with veterinarians to develop formulas that support skin health.

Common Causes of Skin Health Concerns

Environmental Sensitivities

Pollen, plants and dust are environmental factors that can trigger an immune response in some dogs.

Food Sensitivities

Your veterinarian may recommend a diet elimination trial to help determine if your pet has a sensitivity to certain proteins in his current diet.

Parasites

Your dog can pick up external parasites such as mites, fleas, ticks and lice from contaminated sources, both indoors and out

Infection

Puppies, older dogs, and dogs that have recently been ill may be more susceptible to bacterial infections that can lead to skin health concerns.

How Can Nutrition Help?

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin Dermatology formula for your dog. These special formulations can:

Support digestive health by regulating movement through the GI tract and supporting balanced digestive flora

Support the skin’s natural protective barrier

Aid cellular health with a complex blend of antioxidants.

Promote healthy skin and coat by providing long chain omega-3 fatty acids in the diet

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

I have a pit bull, with an extensive history of major health problems. After multiple surgeries to repair both knees, a mandibulectomy, diagnosed as chronic pancreatitis, with chronic diarrhea-she began losing weight rapidly last summer. Prior to this her baseline weight was around 75lbs. From July of 2024, the diarrhea and vomit was constant. We had done elimination trials, home cooked food. Every fresh diet out there. She ate like she was starving and still rapidly losing. By July of 2025, she was down to 43 lbs. we did extensive testing for EPI which was negative. Our next step was to rule out IBD with bowel biopsies which I decided against. And my amazing vet suggested this food. Within three days, vomit and diarrhea completely stopped. Her appetite balanced back out within a few weeks. And now four months later, we are back at a VERY healthy weight of 63 lbs consistently, while still slowly gaining. Oddly enough, we have battled a few little stints of constipation. Which has been easily managed! Skin allergies that we have battled for 9 YEARS have also significantly calmed down. I have spent a fortune on trying to provide the best for this baby, as she is the SOUL of our entire family. Many prescription diets, meds, surgeries, countless days and nights at the vet. But this food??? I credit it to saving my dogs life. Period!

My vet recommended this food for my 8 lb. Toy Poodle 2 years ago. When the small bag was unavailable a couple of months ago, I searched for a different food. Using the advice of groomer and kennel owner, I tried SD Sensitive Stomach and Skin, and also Dr.Gary's "Farmer" label. Both were decent foods, but in order to feed him enough to keep his weight up, he would have messy poop. When I learned I could also order this from Chewy and not have to be on my Vet's schedule for ordering, I got the next small bag from Chewy. Wanted to let you know that Nico's poops are solid and I am so glad to be back to not worrying that he wasn't getting enough to eat.

Thank goodness my dog likes this dry kibble, especially since he's on a strict restricted diet due to allergies. The downside to only feeding dry kibble, it makes him very thirsty, so always have lots of fresh water available. Also keep in mind, the more water they drink, they more potty breaks are required.

Unfortunately my pups are on a prescription diet. I usually order from my vet pharmacy but they didn’t have it in stock due to production issues but you guys had the big bag so I took it. I feel the big bag is a better deal but it is never as fresh as the small bag, luckily my Pups are small too.

My Dog Loves This Food Prescribed By Dermatologist

Henry had a severe reaction to something recently and the dermtologist prescribed this food for a few months as part of an elimination diet. He loves it, wolfs it down actually. His poops have always been on the soft side, but with this food they are smaller and hard as rocks - too hard perhaps. The kibble is made of hydrolized chicken feathers. Not sure how I feel about that, but we're sticking with it for the time being.

My poor baby was having tummy issues every few days. Her tummy would sound like a squeaky barn door and she would pace and cry. Never threw up or had diarrhea, but was so uncomfortable. It took a few weeks to get her switched over, but she gobbled it up now. I appreciate Chewy for carrying this and shipping it so quickly so we always have it on hand and she has no days of discomfort!

Our pup has been on this for over a year and has been doing great. We are still uncertain what he's sensitive to but even the other hydrolyzed option from Royal Canin gives him stomach upset. The only issue is that in the last 3 months this has been out of stock at several online stores multiple times - the most recent time is what brought me to Chewy.

It's a Miracle!

Short version: This food cured my dog's chronic diarrhea in one day! Long version: My well-bred golden retriever puppy had diarrhea almost from the day we brought him home. The vet would give him metronidazole, his stool would be great while on it, but as soon as he'd finish, then loose stools would return. This was the beginning of two year's worth of changing foods, doing the whole probiotic-pumpkin thing, meds, etc. Some things would work for a few months, although he never had really firm bowel movements. It got so bad that we were taking him out several times in the middle of the night, he'd get diarrhea all over his leg fur, and we'd have to wash him constantly. He had an al gland problems too. So diarrhea, fishy discharge, and no sleep made for an unhappy household and had me sitting in the vet's practically in tears. Oh and we had to watch him 24/7 in case he suddenly needed to go to the bathroom. It was stressful. The vet prescribed this dog food and in ONE DAY our guy had the firmest stools ever. It's been a year and he has never had diarrhea again. It's like a miracle and now we have a normal dog. The only reason the vet didn't prescribe it sooner is because it's expensive. He was trying to save us money, but never told us or gave us the option. Kind of mad about that. For treats, we were using Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Adult Hydrolyzed Protein Dog Treats. He got those and his food and nothing else. Over time we've discovered he could eat anything that didn't contain protein. So vegetarian dog treats, apples, crackers, carrots, string beans, pears, blueberries, etc. are all fine. Bottom line, if you're trying all sorts of things to manage your dog's diarrhea and nothing is working, save yourself time and money and ask for this food. It's great.

Just started one week ago. Our dog likes the flavor so far and his stools are more firm, sometimes too firm. He's drinking more water which is normal with this hydrolyzed poultry feathers. His IBD was under control with his prior food but didn't like it had hydrogenated oil with a preservative. Hoping this food will improve his itchy skin. Need to stay on this new food for 6-8 weeks for accurate test. Bon appetit!
