I’ve seen the other marginal or poor reviews on this whistle. People don’t understand the training philosophy of a whistle. To train your dog to recall on a whistle I suggest you review YouTube videos. You cannot simply blow the whistle and dogs magically are trained to recall. Training takes time, effort, consistency and patience. Get up out of your armchair, shut the TV off, get off your smartphone and WORK at training your dog. This is a field whistle designed for extreme conditions- as the description says. I’ve used this whistle for years with wonderful success WITH practice and training. I have another rescued Rhodesian Ridgeback and am training her to recall, as all my other dogs are trained. I am buying several more of these to keep with my field pack, backpack and treat bag. They are loud, amazingly effective and recently saved my dog who slipped her training collar and disappeared into the hills. Thank goodness she had a small bit of whistle training- more underway!
I would NOT recommend this product if you care about your own personal hearing. I bought this to use to call in my labs since I live on 5 acres and sometimes its hard to get them to come inside for the night. On the product it states "Directs sound forward, protecting handler’s ears", however, I used this item a few times and it really hurt my own ears!! I won't ever use again. So I've contacted Chewy and they gave me a refund.
When I start field training my bird dog and my sweet coo's for her to come back just won't cut it, I'll whip out this bad boy. I got pea-less so I don't rattle my ear drums and the housing that directs the sound out just makes good sense. It's loud. It's a whistle. That's really all I have to say about that.
We have two 13 week old Pitbull pups who do not respond to the whistle at all. When they are investigating outside, it does not get their attention. It may have nothing to do with the whistle, may just be sassy pups who need additional training.
used this type of whistle for my dogs for many years and am glad to find it here
This is one of the best training / handling whistles on the market. Easy to blow at different volumes, plenty of range, light in the mouth, and durable. I can't imagine what more anyone would want in a whistle.
Great whistle . I train 18 dogs a day and this whistle is great . Whoever says it's not must not know how to blow a whistle . I have had some clients that can't blow any whistle they try and this one they can after a few days . Don't always blame the product just practice a little more.
Don't believe the hype, does not work AT ALL!!!! Disappointing
