About Taste of the Wild Dog Food

The Diet Nature Intended

They might not be wolves or coyotes, but today's domestic dogs share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.

Energy That Lasts

Taste of the Wild is made with premium meats like wild boar; buffalo; smoked salmon and turkey; and roasted bison, lamb, quail, venison and duck. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pup feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Immune System Support

Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a dog's GI tract. The proprietary K9 Strain probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your dog gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.

Maximizing Nutrient Absorption

To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your canine pal will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.

Perfectly Balanced Omegas

Taste of the Wild gives your pup just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from salmon oil, smoked salmon or ocean fish meal, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Ingredients for Better Health

The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.

TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE: Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.

BLUEBERRIES: Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.

RASPBERRIES: Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

what cup measurements for dog age and weight?
Answer by ChewyAug 06, 2018
Please see below for the feeding instructions.

Does this food have glucosamine in it? I have a german Shepherd puppy and want to make sure his joints grow properly?
Answer by ChewyOct 03, 2017
This product doesn't contain glucosamine. Glucosamine and chondroitin are included in dog foods formulated for senior and performance dogs, many of whom are at risk for joint disease and injury.

Is there a significant difference between the puppy & adult food?
Answer by ChewyJun 12, 2018
The difference between the adult and puppy formulas, are the amount of nutrients. Puppies require more protein than adult dogs because their bodies are busy growing. Puppy food should be higher in calories than adult food to compensate for how much energy puppies expend by growing.

Based on my puppies weight, is the feeding instructions considered per meal or total fed to the dog throughout the day? I feed her twice a day AM&PM (20-30 range)
Answer by ChewyOct 23, 2018
The feeding guidelines are for daily feedings.

shiny coat but stinky poo

I tried this with my english shepherd pup -- I think I've learned from this that his breed does better with grain because his poops were rank. Like hold-your-breath when he pops a squat bad. We could smell it thru the doggy bags on walks. In the yard try not to stand downwind. I mean, the food is very high quality and Eugene grew a beautiful shiny coat. We're in touch with some of his siblings and he'd outgrown them by a margin of ~8lbs - and definitely not with fat. We're now transitioning him to Wellness puppy food with grain and the poops were immediately more tolerable. From what I've read, grain free is OK for breeds with heritage outside agrarian cultures (think husky). I'll keep my farm dog on grain from here on out.

Top Notch

We purchased this product after having our pup on another dog food that we thought was a quality product. She was experiencing hair loss and very loose stools with the other product. After switching to Taste of the Wild, her hair stopped falling out, looks beautiful, and her stool is normal and healthy. And she LOVES it! Definitely a win!!

Ace did not like the taste

Got this food thinking it was going to be great. Although, my dog Ace did not like the flavor at all. Ended up calling Chewy for a refund and donated the remaining food to a local animal shelter.

Great for allergies

Our 4 month old puppy was adopted and had really dry, itchy skin with some scabs (did not have parasites or mites). I feed my cats Taste of the Wild and came across this food that has a different protein other than chicken. After a month of being on this food (which she loves) her coat is gleaming and she is no longer itching (as you can see in the photo). I have never had an issue with this brand and I am extremely particular when it comes to choosing the best food for my animals.

Will not purchase again

At first my puppies loved this food, there are not many beef choices in puppy food. I just ordered a 5lb, and a 14lb bag. Opened the 5lb bag and it smells rancid and neither puppy would eat. Scrambling to find something to switch quickly to without stomach upset.

Not good for yeasty dogs

I thought this was a good quality dog food but Unfortunately two of my dogs developed yeast infections on their skin and in their ears.

My Westie breeder highly recommended this product in the puppy phase and it was well ingested. Now we have moved on to the adult formula. High quality ingredients.

Baxter turned up nose

My mini goldendoodle would not eat this at all plain. He just flat out turned up his nose at it. So, in order to use up the bag, I have to combine it with another dog food + then add canned food to mix them both together. I think it's a good product, and I bought it based on the reviews I read. But not EVERY picky dog eater will go for it.

Shar Pei Puppy Approved

My shar pei puppy is pretty picky and would not touch his Iams puppy food at all he hated it . So I did some research and it showed that this was the best brand of dog food for shar peis since they are prone to certain allergies . Rocky loves this food and he is growing so fast with it. He was also itching and scratching like crazy before this food now he never itches .
