Questions & Answers

14 Customer Questions

If I normally buy my regular clumping litter in 40lb bags, how much of this will I need to get the same amount of litter volume-wise?
Answer by ChewyAug 31, 2018
This litter is over 50% lighter. The 8.5 pound jug equals 20 pounds of leading clumping litters. The 12 pound pail equals 27 pound of leading clumping litters and the 17 pound pail equals 35 pounds of leading clumping litters.

Is this plastic pail recyclable? Seems like a huge waste of plastic.
Answer by ChewyDec 15, 2018
This plastic pail is recyclable.

What minerals are used in this product?
Answer by ChewyAug 02, 2019
Tidy Cats litter contains sodium bentonite, perlite, and charcoal in it. The lightweight core used in their LightWeight litter is composed of perlite. It is safe to use in consumer products or food. Scooping litters commonly contain Sodium Bentonite, but rest assured, all of Tidy Cats litter is non-toxic, as such, there are no ingredients that are harmful to people or pets. Tidy Cats conduct extensive testing of their litter products, including for dust, and a safety review by a veterinary toxicologist of all materials used in the manufacturing process.

Does it has a handle to carry?
Answer by ChewyJul 09, 2019
The 17 pound box does not come with a handle.

Dusty and tracks everywhere!

I love the regular ones so I thought I would try the lightweight ones. It was a big mistake! Pro: - Lightweight. Easy to pour and carry. - Odor control. Great for controlling smells. Cons: - Dusty. There was dust everywhere in my apartment and the dust stick onto my cats' fur and I have to constantly wipe them with a damp towel. I have to hold my breath when dumping and cleaning the littler cause just by looking at it, dust just starts flying. - Tracks everywhere. Since it's mostly made of clay dust, the litter tracks everywhere and leaves a white cast residue on the floor. I have to mop the floor every other day. I didn't finish the whole box and just threw the rest into the trash cause that's where it belongs - TRASH! I wouldn't even want to give this to my worst enemy. If you are thinking about getting this one cause you like the regular one... nope! Don't waste your money. Just consider it an arm workout when you carry those bails.

tracks everywhere

This is by far the worse cat litter I have r en used. I bought it to replace another brand I was using because it made too much dust. I went away for 4 weeks and bought this so my daughter didn’t have to deal with heavy litter. When I got home my entire apartment was covered in litter and there was white spots all over the hardwood floors from their feet being wet after using the litter box. The litter was in my bed, on my couch, just everywhere. I ordered a different litter that was not a light weight one, and threw out the rest of this. I finally finished cleaning everything in my house and disinfecting it.

Tracks everywhere...gross

The order blocking is good, and lightweight makes things easier but it tracks EVERYWHERE including my bed (gross!) When my cat's paw is wet from pee the litter sticks on his paws and solidify, or he tries to lick it off which I don't think is a good thing. It's also pretty dusty so when I'm cleaning the litter I have to wear mask so I don't start coughing like I got consumption. Won't buy again, going back to the old brand (Dr. Elsey's) even though it's much heavier.

Good Litter

I have 6 cats and I love the lightweight litter. I briefly switched to regular litter to cut down on the dust, but it's so heavy I can't put it all out in the trash barrel. My only wish with the Tidy Cats lightweight (and this applies to all lightweight litter) is I wish it was lower dust.

They love this litter

I put it in a separate box to test it out and they both choose this one over the old one. It's more expensive but it seems to have much less dust than the Tidy Cats regular clumping unscented that we've been using for years and I do love that it's not so heavy to lug around.

Cat litter in jugs.

2 containers in one large box is too heavy. One container was crushed, litter was running out of the box. This occurred several times before as well. Please put one container in one smaller box. Your service is great otherwise. Thank you.

Incorrect product

I had a jug of this litter and ordered the box version to use less plastic. The box version did not contain the same litter as the jug. It was darker, larger pieces, and had white and black pieces that are not present in the jug version.

worst litter I have ever used

I got this on a deal, it looked good. But it is absolutely terrible. It is as bad as the cheap litter you buy for the winter and leave in your trunk in case you get stuck on ice. It is not dust free, in fact I'd say it's high dust. Ammonia blocker? One cat peed in it for 2 days and when I went to scoop, I just about choked myself out with the ammonia smell. Also the pee clumps were more like blobs of glue, not dry clumps like many, many other litters I've used. The litter scoop is covered, like chunks of cement. It is also really difficult to scrape from the sides of the box. Also, the tracking is AWFUL, I never knew litter could be tracked so bad, haha! I have dark floors and there are white paw prints all over, going a shocking distance from the box. These are of course made with pee and litter dust. And yes, I had plenty of litter in the box and it was not overused...like I said, only one cat used it for 2 days. It is in fact very lightweight but it didn't last very long.

Good litter

This liter scoops well and does not leave behind chunks of soiled litter like others I have used. Since it scoops so well, it lasts longer than other litters which makes the higher price worth it. The only downside is that it seems to be messier as it is lighter and makes more of a mess outside of the box.

Not really sure yet!

At first I thought that this litter was truly 99% dust free. Now after a week plus of use and twice daily cleaning I am finding it raising dust......I hope that this will not get worse. If so I will have to wear a mask while cleaning the litter box and try to find a different litter.
