LTE provides the longest range of any cellular band and updates your phone regardless of how far away you might be - even across the world. Tractive trackers have a built-in SIM card - like your phone - that uses mobile networks to send you location info. If the service in the area isn't the best, the quality might be different in that area. This manufacturer's website features a coverage area tool that allows you to check the coverage in the area for more information.

I can find my roamers when they go walk about

Two of my pack are escape artists. One is a boater when the door opens, the other scales a 6 foot fence. Individually, they don't ramble further than our yard, but if they manage to escape together, they are off! After they disappeared for days, we got air tags. In this very rural area, that was a miserable fail, so Tractive was our next option. Despite my inability to perfect the safe area, I've got it close enough that I can locate them when they have escaped. The 4 star rating is only because I find programming them somewhat less than intuitive, but am grateful to them for helping me find my precious.pups. Note: the third one was because I had adopted a rescue that was labeled an escape risk. If I can get him out of the house, he runs wildly to the front door to get back in. Still, because I travel with my pack in our motor home, I like having the ability to find them should they stray. The units are easily charged pretty quickly. The little nubs that are used to hold the unit on the collar has broken on one, so it is now secured by an electric zip tie. I do check regularly on all three as my Aussies and German Shepherd play rough and they have lost several items that had been attached to their collars.

Absolutely useless, do NOT waste your money

I bought this, paid for the 5-year subscription, and I have nothing but regret. The virtual fence is too large. You cannot customize it to suit your yard. The application

I bought this, paid for the 5-year subscription, and I have nothing but regret. The virtual fence is too large. You cannot customize it to suit your yard. The application is atrocious and insanely inaccurate. My dog will be in my house while the app throws alerts that she’s left the fence. If you set up wifi to save battery life, you’ll be completely screwed and panicked trying to locate your dog because it WILL NOT allow you to do live/radar. Mine got out and into a neighbor’s yard two door’s up. So glad my neighbors are phenomenal and helped me locate her and get her out of their yard. Don’t be like me. Find a better product. Tractive’s customer service is not great.

Works great in the car!

A useful tracker. Works best in the car but that's where I need to see where my dog took off to! I can track her as she does her thing running around the 90 acre

A useful tracker. Works best in the car but that's where I need to see where my dog took off to! I can track her as she does her thing running around the 90 acre wooded area. With her long legs, fast speed, she once did about 8 miles in about 1/2 hour. I don't like having to pay $$$ for the tracking app. for a year. I really don't need the tractive now as she has accepted her training to come when I call her 99% of the time and has decided home is where her meals are.

Not accurate enough

The tracker shows the location within a 50ft “zone” which means if my dog is near the fence it shows he’s outside the fence. That’s not helpful at all. I got alerts

The tracker shows the location within a 50ft “zone” which means if my dog is near the fence it shows he’s outside the fence. That’s not helpful at all. I got alerts all day long saying he was outside the perimeter and he wasn’t. It might work if you are using it to find a dog who has run off but not good to see if your dog has gotten out of your yard. We used this for a guardian dog.

Doesn’t work in areas without excellent cell/wifi service

Unfortunately, I had already missed the return window and signed up for the year subscription before we could resolve that leas than perfect connection was the issue. So, if you live in a rural area, save your money.

GPS collar

Collar would be too bulky for a little dog but for my 2 30lb dogs it fits fine. Tracks them well and if they got out I feel confident I could find them quickly

Collar would be too bulky for a little dog but for my 2 30lb dogs it fits fine. Tracks them well and if they got out I feel confident I could find them quickly. Only quibble I have is that GPS readings are a little loose, tracks them in a 2-3 house radius. A tight perimeter virtual fence doesn't work for me as it frequently reads they are out of the fence due to loose GPS reading. Not important to me but for some that could be an issue. I'm pleased with it despite limitations. Meets my needs

Good so far
