The center of the aloe plant, which is green and aqueous, is safe for cats and dogs, however, the outer edges contain a white sap called the latex, which is toxic for animals. Aloe products and ingredients formulated for pets, like aloe vera extract, do not contain this latex.

The vet recommended a chlorhexidine wipe and cortisone spray. The wipes are very small...one per paw. And a small container cost about $12. This year when Winston started to react to the "rust" I searched Chewy and found these awesome allergy wipes. They're about the size of a diaper wipe and unless his paws are exceptionally dirty, one wipe treats all 4 paws. I follow up the cleaning with a cortisone spray and the combo is giving our fur baby relief!

I gave this a try because my boy was scratching a lot and I noticed he had a hot spot about four or 5 inches above his tail on his back that really bothers him and that also gave off a bit of dandruff. It usually happens over the winter time when we’re using dryer air with the heat. So I tried this and just very lovingly and gently wiped him down really well, tenderly getting to that hot spot because it’s irritated and I didn’t want to cause any further distress. And I continually wipe him down once a week with it concentrating on his hotspots. I also noticed that being summer time he seems to be itchy again, so I’ve been using it more frequently to help his itchiness, especially his ears, under his neck and of course his hotspot and it really does seem to work. I use two or three wipes with him and really work it into his skin. Also the pack that I have does not have any scent on it which I’m happy about because he’s very sensitive to the scents and such that is put into a lot of these treatments. It doesn’t bother him. He just has a nice clean sent and he’s a very happy kitty afterwards. So I do recommend.
