I thought Sorbitol is ver toxic for dogs. Why is Sorbitol in your toothpaste?

Answer by ChewyJan 02, 2020
Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol with a sweet taste which the human body and animal body metabolizes. It is typically made from corn syrup but occurs naturally in apples, pears, peaches and prunes. Sorbitol is approved for use in toothpaste and mouthwashes and safe for use with dogs.

The discoloration of the Vanilla Mint toothpaste can happen due to oxygen reacting with the enzymes in the toothpaste causing a cosmetic discoloration.

Great toothpaste with a great smell

My two pups are severely allergic to protein and are on everything hypoallergenic including their food, treats, etc. so I found this vanilla enzymatic toothpaste. I use a toothbrush that is rounded and put some on it and I thoroughly brush their teeth every morning. I scrub each section of their mouths from front to back inside and sides. They like the taste but hate that I’m in their mouths . I’ve been doing them since they have been two months old and now that they are a little older , they still don’t like it even though I’m gentle with them. But their teeth are very white and even their vet says she is very impressed with the condition of their teeth and she sees no tarter on them. I’m a spaz when it comes to brushing my teeth and my daughters so I’m no different when it comes to my pups. And I also don’t like when a pup has bad breath. When a dog has tarter just like a human it can lead to bad health conditions. So I take care of my dog’s teeth . The enzymatic action of this toothpaste really makes a difference over other toothpaste that doesn’t have it. And I’m so glad that it comes in vanilla flavor so that I don’t have to worry about my pup’s allergies. Highly recommend!

We tried the beef with our dog but she absolutely hated it, so we are now trying mint. I do have a Chinese Crested who are known for their dental issues. Our dog is five this year and I have been brushing almost every night with her. She loved the poultry toothpaste but can’t have it due to her chicken allergy. This brand of toothpaste has done a great job keeping her teeth healthy. She puts up with the mint but if she didn’t have an allergy to chicken we would definitely be using the poultry one she enjoyed. Another item we use which she loves is C.E.T. VEGGIEDENT. This item works well with the toothpaste and her teeth have never looked healthier. Our Vet office also started carrying these chews so I know they are Vet recommended. Thanks to the manufacturer for not putting chicken in their product! And thanks to Chewy for carrying them at a lower price than our Vet.

I have been using this toothpaste and this flavor for over 17 years. If you want your dog/cat to have SMELLY good breath, use Vanilla Mint only. Who wants their dog/cat to smell like a meat or fishy stuff. This smells fresh and pleasant. When my old service dog, Rio, was live, I would brush his teeth twice a week because he would be in public. Vanilla Mint is the flavor I used. My new service dog, Abigal Gabrial Josaphine uses the same toothpaste. When your service dog is working around the public, hygiene is important. If you are wondering about what "flavor" to order, Vanilla Mint is your answer.

This toothpaste must taste great because my golden retriever gets so excited to brush his teeth now! He stands next to the counter where I keep it and stares at it like a treat. Vanilla mint is the flavor we chose. Cannot attest to effectiveness yet because we only have used a few times so far, but half the battle is just being able to even brush my dogs teeth. We use a cotton finger brush and the combo seems to be working fine for us. Will purchase this toothpaste again.

Simple, effective toothbrush

I have tried a few pet toothbrushes over the years and this one has been the easiest to use by far. The brush head is small and angled, which makes it much easier to reach the back teeth without feeling like I am poking around blindly. The bristles are soft but still feel effective at removing plaque, and they do not irritate the gums. What I appreciate most is that it does not feel bulky or awkward in the hand. Brushing feels more controlled and my dog tolerates it better than stiffer or oversized brushes we have tried in the past. It works well with enzymatic toothpaste and makes regular brushing feel more manageable instead of a chore. This is not a flashy product, but it does exactly what it should. If you are trying to stay consistent with dental care, this is a solid, no nonsense toothbrush that gets the job done.

I brush my dog teeth every day and this is a fantastic toothpaste. When I first trained her to get used to getting her teeth brushed, I use a peanut butter flavored toothpaste. Now that cheese is used to it. I use this toothpaste, which has a great fresh scent to it, and I has the enzymes needed to actually clean her teeth.

Smells weird but works GREAT

My girl has rancid breath sometimes. Idk if it’s from eating deer droppings or her old aged teeth, but I digress. I LOVE this toothpaste. Obviously you don’t get

My girl has rancid breath sometimes. Idk if it’s from eating deer droppings or her old aged teeth, but I digress. I LOVE this toothpaste. Obviously you don’t get a minty fresh scent like a human but it’s sooooo much better once we brush with this tooth paste. We only use it maybe once a month because it seems to take a long while before her breath gets stinky again.

I wouldn’t recommend this toothpaste the flavor is more for humans my cats were not happy with vanilla mint I did force it in their mouth but i wrap them up cat in the bag plus other things. They are not the type to bite but they were making faces and alittle bit more nasty. So I can’t recommend this flavor it’s more for a human.

My vetrinarian suggested that I try this tooth paste to help remove plaque from her back teeth since thet is where a dog chews. I put a drop of it on a small treat after she has a meal and she chews it. She lover the vanilla mint flavor. I also brush her front teeth with it at the end of the day and she loves it. I can see a difference in her teeth, they are whiter.
