Does this lid have a weight limit, or would it need reinforcements to prevent, say, a 10lb cat from taking a dip? Unfortunately this is a serious question.

This cover does have a weight limit. It's not recommended to let pets, such as cats, sit on this metal cover.

Can I still place the overhead heat lamps onto this without it being a hassle when I want to open it?

It is recommended to measure your tank to find the best fit. The 20-inch option is for sizes 10, 20X Critter Cage, and measures 20 inches long x 10 inches wide. The 24-inch option is for sizes 15, 20H Critter Cage, and measures 24 inches long x 12 inches wide.

Got this for my hermit

My hermit crab had a plastic cover at first that wouldn’t have paired well with his new light so I got this along with the lamp. He loves it I always catch him climbing

My hermit crab had a plastic cover at first that wouldn’t have paired well with his new light so I got this along with the lamp. He loves it I always catch him climbing upside down on it in his terrarium. So overall very good purchase I also out the lamp directly on the screen cover/ hinges as well and never have a problem with anything melting or burning.

Nice that it is hinged so you dont have to remove the whole lid to feed. Fits a 20 gallon tall tank well. The metal is very thin and it it does flex a good bit at

I wouldnt put anything on the top of it unless it spans the whole length f the lid to support it, like a light. Price is great though

Buyer beware though. My first one I received was not right. The frame was bent to where it didn't fit on the tank right and because I have a skinny green snake, it wouldn't work. Thank you Chewy for sending me out a new it. The second one fit perfect. Have no idea how that other frame was made so off, but, I am very pleased with this type of lid because you only have to lift half to feed and water.

Sturdy

I have a 55 gallon tall aquarium that I turned into a paladurium. My red eyed green tree frog kept escaping. This lid fits over half of the tank after bending

I have a 55 gallon tall aquarium that I turned into a paladurium. My red eyed green tree frog kept escaping. This lid fits over half of the tank after bending the inside edge flat. The other half is covered with a standard glass aquarium top to keep the humidity levels up.
