Feed free choice and change daily. Moisten pellets with water to stimulate feeding behavior and create a flavorful mash that tortoises love. Many tortoises enjoy lettuce; however diets made of mostly lettuce are unnaturally high in protein and low in fiber. If your tortoise will only eat lettuce, thoroughly mix small amounts of lettuce into moistened Natural Grassland Tortoise Food. Slowly reduce the amount of lettuce offered at each feeding until your tortoise has switched to Natural Grassland Tortoise Food. Always provide clean drinking water (use Zoo Med's Repti Safe water conditioner to treat tap water). Store unused food in a cool, dry area.

I feed this to my 4 month old sulcata tortoise. At first he refused to eat it, but after slowly mixing the pellet mush in with some other veggies he now will eat the pellets on their own. I run them under hot water for a few seconds and it seems to do the trick.

A VERY GOOD SOURCE OF FIBER
By TurtleBaby on Jan 10, 2021
I grind up the pellets in a coffee grinder. I lightly spray water on their greens and then sprinkle the ground up ZooMed Natural Grassland Tortoise Food on top of the greens.

Tortoise came back to normal
By KarenMc on Jun 19, 2020
85 year old Aunt Maggie had Knobby for 15 years in her yard in this High Desert town in the Southern Sierra mountains. When we moved him in the Fall of 2018, he came out in 2019 and after 2-3 weeks was seriously lacking strength and dragging his back legs. He also had a growth on his lip, that might have been herpes that we've read about. Worried about his nutrition we bought Zoo Med Tortoise food and added it to his greens. After a week or so he started standing up on his legs and showing signs of better health. Chewy was the only pet sales that had Tortoise food and we're so grateful they do. We fed him the wet mash smeared on his greens regularly and this spring he came out like his usual 85 year old Aunt Maggie had Knobby for 15 years in her yard in this High Desert town in the Southern Sierra mountains. Might have saved my tort's life
By lautanner on Jul 4, 2020
My Hermann's tortoise was eating a lot of grocery store greens but wasn't gaining much weight. I rescued him when he was 2. He had MBD and I had to do some quick research because I was a novice tort owner. Found these pellets and he's like a whole new tortoise! Once he started eating these, he gained weight, his body got stronger, and he was more energetic in general. The vet said his health improved greatly because of this food. I soak a handful of pellets overnight so that they're slightly mushy for his morning feeding and he absolutely loves it. Thank you, Zoo Med!

Wouldn’t touch it
By Spike on Oct 6, 2020
It smells great but my tortoise smelled it and walked away. Maybe other tortoises like it but mine wouldn’t touch it.

I’ve been feeding this to my sulcata tortoise for years. It’s nutritious and he eats it right up. I add some water to it to soften it up and usually mix it with lettuce or other veggies. He will eat it either way, alone or with veggies.

Best Grassland Diet
By Skip on May 20, 2020
Best ingredients for grassland tortoises. All natural with correct levels of nutrients. Can be feed to all size tortoises...hatchlings to adults.. by soaking pellets first to create a mash ( I recommend soaking the pellets every feeding...never feeding dry for ease of eating and added hydration). Because the pellets are densely compressed they will require longer soaking times than other commercial diets that have more air in them. I’ve never had a problem ..with getting multiple species...to eat this diet. Zoomed comprises about 30% of my torts diet with greens/veggies and natural outdoor grazing rounding out the other 70%.
