How many pounds would I need for a 125 gallon aquarium

Answer by GetTankedSep 15, 2024
1 pound per gallon typically yields 1 inch of gravel

How big are the grains - more like sand than gravel? Is this good for loaches?

Answer by ChewyJun 28, 2022
This gravel measures .5 to 1.5 millimeters and is safe to use for marine or freshwater setups.

Does this come as dry sand or is it wet in the bag?

Answer by ChewyJan 17, 2023
This gravel is sent as a dry sand.

Can this be vacuumed or will it all get sucked up?

Answer by ChewyAug 14, 2023
This substrate can be vacuumed. Care must be taken with this in any other find substrate to constrict the siphon when vacuuming if the substrate is going to enter the main siphon tube.

Very natural fine substrate

I used this to cap off an area to test whether or not Cory cats would congregate to it. They did and enjoy spending time nosing through it. I think it’s a very clean

I used this to cap off an area to test whether or not Cory cats would congregate to it. They did and enjoy spending time nosing through it. I think it’s a very clean substrate right out of the bag and I would do a complete substrate of this in the future if I ever set up another tank.

Clean!

This substrate is so clean it only required min rinsing. The size is smaller than gravel but bigger than sand. Makes it easy to clean with a siphon. I have this

Bag open in box

Bag of gravel broke open in box. Loose gravel in box. Bag was not secured well in box . Able to slide around. Had to sweep floor after finishing unpacking.

The fine grit of the gravel.

Apparently this product comes in different colors as well as grain size. I like this a lot but I mixed this one with the beach sand look. Really made my fish stand

I wanted a more natural looking substrate for my aquarium to make the plants and decorations pop but I also wanted something finer than typical gravel but not super fine sand to make it easier for a couple of loaches I recently rescued to burrow. This is great. It is sand, but it's a coarse grain. I rinsed it in a bowl at about 3 cups at a time. It felt like I was panning for gold! Lol After I was finally done and added it to the aquarium with a couple gallons of water I saw it was still dirty. I added more water and used my gravel washer to syphon the dirty water out. I add 2 gallons of water and let it sit overnight since it still looked murky. Sure enough, it settled and was clear the next day. I put a small plate in the tank with a ceramic mug on it and started pouring water in. It worked like a charm. The water flowed out of the cup and onto the plate without disturbing the gravel/sand or decorations. It takes longer to clean this than standard gravel but I think the end result makes it worth it.

The bag had holes in it. The sand was leaking all out when they brought it.

Saying everywhere the bag had holes in it second bag they don’t deliver like that

Great Gravel

The caribsea graves is the perfect size for my corydoras. It does not wear down there barbels like the4 larger gravel.

Natural look

I wasn’t interested in another tank with sand substrate, but I have corys. This is a little bigger than sand but light enough the cory can dig through it no problem

I wasn’t interested in another tank with sand substrate, but I have corys. This is a little bigger than sand but light enough the cory can dig through it no problem. It’s a good compromise. It will still get sucked up by a strong siphon so keep that in mind. Half of a 40 pound bag was enough for my 20 gallon long.
