    sand replaced gravel

    By on

I purchased 3-20lb bags of this sand for my 75gal African Cichlid aquarium, after rinsing thoroughly and adding the solution that is supplied with each bag it only took about 4 hrs of cycling with my FX4 canister filter to have a clean and clear tank. I love the way my tank has a natural look to it with large lava rocks as decor and half a pirate ship off to the side, and love to watch my fish sift and move the sand around the tank.

    Dusty Sand better options

    By on

I recently redid a couple of my fish tanks. I keep chichlids. I used this in one and the crystal River supernaturals in the other. Did all the basics washed the sand thoroughly, drained the water, was very careful putting the sand in. Well over a week later and the tank I used this in will not stop clouding the water. Every tiny movement stirs up dust. Mind you I rinsed the sand in buckets for hours before installing it. The other type Crystal River keeps my water crystal clear and looks great opt for that.

    Great Product

    By on

I really like the way my tanks look with this product. It was easy to prepare for use. I only have one problem, my cat fish, when they get energetic stir it up and it takes awhile for for things to settle down. I also have take the filter media out and rinse the sand off. Other than this it is great.

    Not a true color

    By on

Bought the sunset because I liked the color over the white but after 4 months now it looks like white sand leading me to believe it wasn't a true color. I say buy the Crystal river color or something else the Sunset gold color doesn't last. But on a good note it is the perfect texture for Cory's. Also added a photo to show the color now

    Dirty water

    By on

After thoroughly washing this sand, adding it to the tank, waiting for it to settle, taking it back out of the tank and re-rinsing for what felt like the 50th time, the water was still so cloudy and wouldn't settle, I had to run out and buy new substrate while all my fish were waiting in their holding tank. Would not recommend.

    The best price

    By on

Great enrichment for my Orandas. The filter is able to pick up debris before it falls through all that gravel I used to use.it took about a week for the water to clear but it looks absolutely fabulous now. Perfect texture, color and size grain.

    Nice product

    By on

Now that everything has cleared, my tank looks great. I am excited that this is not suppose to affect the aquarium ph. The color is true to description and all the packaging info is pictured. Make sure you rinse this sand well. I rinsed mine quickly in small batches in a bucket. The result was a foggy mess. I had to change the water twice with 2 days in between to allow for settling. I think this could have been avoided with better rinsing. I would expect similar results from other products.

Very pretty sand in the tank

    By on

I used this for 1/3 of my tank and the other 2/3 was white. Some fish like a darker color they can feel safer and blend in with better. Takes a lot of pre-washing to become clean enough to use in tank but is worth it for the golden color. When you have placed sand in tank where you want it place a dinner plate ( wash in warm water only, no soap ) as level as possible on sand. Pour water slowly in center of plate to dissipate pressure of water evenly and this will keep the sand from being disturbed as much as possible making the tank water much more clear. Fill to 2/3 then remove plate and add decor and plants.
