I wanted to use this gate to keep my cats and dog separate - I have a hallway about 38.5 inches wide - will this gate fit the space with the added extensions?

The opening of the walkway is 16 inches.

Does this gate have a lift latch or a slide latch? One image shows lift latch, the other shows slide latch. One reviewer posted a pic that looks like it has a slide latch.

Cat Door Is Small But Will Work

We got these gates for incoming dogs that we will need to restrict without restricting our cats. Gate is nice and stable. It fits well in our doorways and doesn’t create any damage on the walls. Only wish is that the cat door entrance was slightly larger (we have larger cats). I understand that if the cat door was any larger the dogs might get interested, however I still wish there was an option for it. We will also most likely remove the cat door completely since there is no way to keep it propped open and know the cats will accidentally lock themselves in a room. There is no easy way to do this so we will have to permanently alter them. This point is primarily why this door gets 4 out of 5 stars.

Exactly What We Needed

We utilize this gate to block off our stairs from our APBT puppy. He is fairly smart and can open the cat door on his own but how we have it set up he cannot fit

We utilize this gate to block off our stairs from our APBT puppy. He is fairly smart and can open the cat door on his own but how we have it set up he cannot fit through. The height is perfect and the extenders are the cherry on top. He is a strong, weighty boy that knows how to knock down traditional baby gates but the tension screws on this gate have held up wonderfully. I would absolutely recommend this to others and have considered buying another one.

I thought I would only be using it while dog sitting, however it will stay up because it’s great for keeping them out of the kitchen while I’m cooking.

Perfect for families with cats and babies

Small dogs may be able to fit through the cat door but it’s too small for toddlers thankfully. The latch is easy enough to open, but you do have to engage the latch

Small dogs may be able to fit through the cat door but it’s too small for toddlers thankfully. The latch is easy enough to open, but you do have to engage the latch to close it unless you slam it closed. I’d prefer for it to stay all the way open or close itself (like my previous pet gate did) but it kinda just hangs halfway open or almost closed but not latched if you don’t intentionally close it. Overall it works great and I love that it came with both a tension mount and hardware mount so kids can’t knock it over. The cat door also swings open or closed with the door but it won’t lock closed unless you do it. So it’s fine if it swings closed because the cat can push it open.

So far, so good!

This might be the answer to our prayers. One of our 3 dogs has nothing better to do whenever we're not paying attention than to go down the basement where we keep the litter boxes and get into them, much to our disgust - and I don't think the cats appreciate it either! I assembled the gate myself, the instructions were clear, and it only took me about 1/2 hour to assemble and install. So if I can do it, almost anyone can! It seems sturdy. I think our cats will be thrilled - I know we are!
