Is it safe- how do I make sure it doesn’t go into the quic
Answer by ChewyJul 02, 2020
In white nails, the cut surface will turn pink just before reaching the quick. This is where you should stop. In black nails, initially, the cut surface will show a white or gray center, but as you get closer to the quick, this center will turn black and eventually pink immediately before reaching the quick. Take of just a tiny bit of nail at a time to see this change, and stop when the cut surface shows a solid black center.

Can this be used for large dogs?

This electric nail grinder provides a safe alternative to nail clipping for dogs of all sizes.

What is all included with the Conair Dog grinder? It says it has replacements but are they any that are included when you buy the grinder too?
Answer by ChewyApr 30, 2020
This grinder includes a single stone (coarse grind) and sander (finer finish). They are easily interchangeable and additional stone/sander attachments are sold separately. Search for ConairPRO Professional Dog Nail Grinder Replacement Tips.

Can you use this on cats as well?
Answer by ChewyNov 30, 2017
We encourage pet parents to clip cat's nails as opposed to using a nail grinder as grinding nails can cause them to fray easier.

Just The Ticket!

These clippers are quiet, didn't alarm our chihuahua & now we just clip the point off the claw & use the grinder to shorten the nail. We tried with & without the grinder head protector & found that without was better & more accurate. We really did not like, (nor did he), claw clipping time because it was stressful for him & we worried about clipping too short. This grinder takes all the hassle out of it. I like that there are multiple replacement heads, that it's comfortable to hold & that is corded instead of battery operated. It's a great nail grinder for a small dog.

Works Great

I would get this over any cordless device for the simple fact that the speed and power will be maintained at all times. Comes with 3 rough grinders and 1 smoother buffer (pink). Very easy to use once you figure out that you have to push the red triangle button to then use the tool to remove or add a grinder piece.

Works but missing tool

The sandpaper rings get tightened to the rubber wheel using a small Phillips screw at the top. The supplied tool is a flathead and will not work to tighten the screw.

Just buy it

We adopted a 25(ish)lb dog who had very long nails that sort of curved in on themselves. I couldn't get them in our canine nail clippers because of the curve off her nail, and whenever I tried, she would panic. I grabbed this on a whim and couldn't be happier. It comes with a stone as well as two different coarseness levels of sanding bands (2 of each). It's quiet and easy to use. It didn't upset my dog while we sanded off around a half an inch of nail and was super quick once we changed it to the coarsest band. Highly recommend.

Electric nail drill!

This is my first electric nail trimmer. Our pack consists of 2 chihuahuas, a senior mix, and a 5 month old rottie. Our senior boy has always been a battle with nail trimming. He was so easy to trim with this! The cord is long enough to reach where needed. And the rest of the pups adjusted easily to the trim. Thank goodness! Easy peasy!

Works great

My dog hated having her nails clipped. She has black nails so I had to take her to get them done.I bought this and she didn't mind it. I can do her nails without worrying I will cut the quick. She now falls asleep when I do her nails.

okay for small dogs but not great for big dogs

We have a competitor's cordless nail grinder, and it's great, but we need to recharge batteries fairly often, so we decided to try a corded nail grinder. It's nice that it comes with multiple heads, but it isn't intuitive on how to change them (thanks, youtube.). There's only one speed and it's an "okay" speed for a small dog with soft nails (pictured), but it takes FOREVER on larger dogs or harder nails. If you & your dog are patient, and you have a really comfortable and well-lit area to groom, this is probably fine. If not? Go with a higher performance version.

Better for Medium to Small Pets

My dog has thick, large nails. It took awhile to get them trimmed. After her first foot I got the clippers and trimmed the other nails then used this tool to shape and smooth the nails. This kind of defeats the purpose of having this tool. The grinder and attachments are not quite tough enough for thick nails but it did a good job on shaping and smoothing. Look for a tool that works well on thick nails.

Found the Answer!

After trying a less expensive, chargeable style grinder, I found this product is far superior. It has more power, the grinder heads are much more efficient and the cord is not a problem at all. The chargeable one was a little more quiet, so perhaps it was a good lead-in. This model is the answer for me to keep our GSP's nails under control. It literally took 1 year for me to get to a point of real progress because our dog was so nervous and resistant to having her nails touched. For the first 9m of her life, she had to be semi-sedated so the vet could trim them. I was determined not to have to continue that process for her entire life! This Conair grinder has been a dependable answer to what was a super traumatic issue for our dog. I use it almost everyday, with lots of tiny treats, to keep it familiar and make incremental progress. I'll buy another if it ever stops working.
