When transitioning your pet to a new food, we recommend a gradual introduction of the new formula over a 7 day period. For pets with sensitivities, extend the transition period to 10 to 14 days. Start by adding a small amount of your pet’s new food to his or her current food. Gradually, increase the new food amount and decrease the current food amount at each feeding until you are feeding only the new food.

I heard really good things about this food from online Great Dane groups, but then I saw all of the bad reviews about how the formula must have changed because their dogs were getting sick. I thought it was possible that people just got bad bags and that they wouldn’t all be like that. Boy was I wrong. At first when mixing the food in with the old food, my dogs went crazy for it and they were eating it all up with no problems, but once I weened them off their old food and fed them only this food, that’s when the problems started. I noticed they stopped eating as much as they were when it was mixed with the old food and that my mutt baby had really bad gas. Then I walked outside and noticed all the diarrhea from both my mutt and my Great Dane. I thought it was possible I didn’t ween them off slow enough and that they were still adjusting to it, but it’s been a little bit now and there has been no change. Luckily, we haven’t experience the vomiting but I saw that could possibly happen as well. From the beginning I noticed a rancid smell and just assumed that it didn’t matter. Now I’m wondering if the food is spoiled… but every bag? Don’t risk it like I did. I am going to be returning to Purina until I can find a better solution.
Shipping Advice only: When shipped with knuckle or femur bones, separate dog food bag from bones with thin cardboard. Due to rough handling by delivery people, the bones broke the plastic bag in several places causing ONLY INCONVENIENCE, NO LOSS. NO CREDIT REQUESTED OR DESIRED.
I’ve been feeding my dog Diamond Naturals Large Breed Lamb Meal and Rice for over a year and a half. He has always enjoyed eating, that is until the last bag of food I bought. He refuses to eat. For the last couple of weeks he has not eaten more than a few mouthfuls a day. I thought he was just being difficult. I see now it’s the food that’s the problem. What I thought was him being a picky eater, may have saved him from having adverse reactions to his food. Like so many other dog owners, I had thought Diamond was a decent food, but now I have my doubts. So come morning I will be on the hunt for a food he will enjoy and will be better for him. The sad fact is so many dry foods are having customer reviews about problems. The cost goes up and the quality seems to not be what it was. I’ll spend whatever I have to for my dog to eat a better food. It will be less expensive than feeding something that will cause him to be sick and require vet visits. It’s a shame it’s this way, but nothing is worth forcing him to eat something he is avoiding at all cost.
My dog has suddenly been having major allergy flare ups that I have not seen since I realized she is allergic to chicken. I narrowed it down to the point I knew it had to be the food although there was nothing put out by the company that the formula was changed. After reading all of the most recent reviews of dog owners having the same issues with their dogs, I most definitely have switched my Great Danes food. Also, after speaking to my veterinarian about it, many dog food companies have tried to cut costs and have lessened their protocols in clean the processing equipment between batches of food so if they processed chicken and then started on the lamb and rice, it is cross-contaminated. I can’t say definitively whether it is cross contamination or a changed formula, either way something has changed and my dog is reacting poorly to this food. She has lost her appetitive for this food and becomes itchy and has begun to lose her coat and become dry and flaky due to allergy flare up.
We have fed our dogs the same food for more than 10 years. Recently, it just stopped agreeing with their digestive systems so we decided to change to Diamond Naturals. My dogs LOVE this food. They all are eating it and seem to have no problems digesting it. They seem to enjoy the taste as well. So glad we happened upon this and will continue to use it!
We used to love this food but it now contains chicken fat and that isn’t going to work for our chicken sensitive Great Bernese. A bag change or something would have been nice, why put chicken in the lamb recipe? Otherwise we did previously love it and would recommended it if your dog doesn’t have an issue with chicken.
As I stated, dogs wolves It down. I have it on automatic ship, saves money, comes right to my door, don’t have to leave the house. It’s easy to change the ship date. Plus Diamond dog food is a local product.
I noticed my dogs weren't thrilled with their kibble and had been having nasty side effects, which I blamed on a different source while completely overlooking that we had started this new bag (had been getting them the chicken variety prior to this). I had 2 GSDs on it, one started balding, the other vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Upon reading other 1 star reviews it dawned on me I was blaming the wrong source. I am immediately stopping all kibble (reading 1 star reviews on other brands read like they do on this one) and taking the money saved and putting them on raw full time. (We get the meat from a local farmer, so we know that source at least.) Just be cautious if you try this kibble.
Had to transfer my dog over to this food because his original food that he’s been using a long time was out of stock for way too long. Introduced this to him a little at a time because I was tired of waiting for the other one to come back in stock and couldn’t locate it anywhere. it did not agree with his stomach at either end and ended up with a very large vet bill to make him feel better. Not happy
We’ve used Diamond Naturals dog food with our dogs for many years with no problems. Unfortunately the last two bags seem to be causing stomach issues in both dogs-didn’t think much of it till I saw other reviews mentioning the vomiting/diarrhea as well. The scent of the food also seems to be different/stronger, even though it’s the same formula. Fearing that some ingredients have changed?
