DIY Cat Toys: Make a Lime Slice Double-Catnip Toy for Your Main Squeeze

Materials:

• Large circle stencil template or two cups of different sizes (a soda can and a 3-inch diameter cup work well)
• Scissors
• 2 small binder clips or sewing pins (straight pins)
• Black marker
• Ruler
• Felt squares or sheets (lime green, dark green and white)
• Embroidery needle
• Thread or embroidery floss (white)
• Thimble
• Organic catnip (Meowijuana Meowi-Waui, Petlinks Pure Bliss, Holistic Blend)

Steps:

1. 1. Use the marker to trace the 2.5-inch circle stencil (or soda can) onto a piece of lime green felt.

1. 1. Trace the 3-inch circle stencil or a 3-inch diameter cup onto a piece of white felt. Trace another 3-inch circle onto a piece of dark green felt.

1. 1. Pin (or clip) the smaller green circle in the center of the white circle. Use white thread to sew around the edge of the green circle to attach it to the white circle. (We used 6 strands thick; if using embroidery floss, separate 3 strands so that it’s 6 strands thick again once you thread your needle.)

1. 1. Use a running stitch to sew a spoke pattern onto the green circle so that you have eight separate pie-shaped sections.

1. 1. Fill in the middle of the circle with stitches to make the center white.

1. 1. Use a blanket stitch or whipstitch to attach this piece to the large, dark green circle. Leave about an inch unsewn.

1. Finish sewing the last inch closed, and tie it off with a knot along the edge. Then spray with catnip oil on both sides.
