Trend alert: Summer 2025 is all about escaping into nature. As the weather warms up, pets and their people are hearing the call of the wild—even if it’s just the wilderness at their local city park.
“There’s a big outdoor story for summer,” says Chewy Design and Trend Manager Ann-Margaret Kim. “Whether they’re an occasional outdoor explorer, a weekend warrior, or on the road consistently, people are going to be exploring the outdoors.”
And your pet’s products are following suit—in several unique ways. From shining bright at night to colors that appeal to both you and your pet, check out these trends headed to a hiking trail near you.
Blue Hues
When you think of outdoor gear, colors like khaki and brown might spring to mind. But while neutrals are still a staple this season, expect to see some brighter tones, like vibrant turquoise, in your pet’s toys.
These fun pops of color aren’t just to keep things fresh for you. They’re also designed to appeal to your dog, Kim says.
“Dogs see in different spectrums than humans do,” she explains. “They are drawn more to blues. So we’re making sure that in the outdoor world, where a dog sees mostly shades of gray, that they can actually see some other colors too.”

Glow Up
This season, give your dog or cat a glow-up—literally. Glow-in-the-dark and reflective toys are having a moment, Kim says.
Not only are these items fun and flashy, but they’re also easier for both you and your dog to track—and that’s especially helpful during evening trips to the dog park or backyard sessions with the flying disc.

Water Play
What’s the best thing about summer? If you’re a water-loving pet, it’s the return of warm weather, bringing trips to the beach, the lake, or even just the backyard pool or sprinkler.
“Our pets are going with us to so many places,” Kim says, including summer getaways to water-friendly locales. “We’re planning our trips with pets in mind first.”
Following that cue, Frisco designed waterproof and water-resistant toys designed to withstand the splashiest adventures. Many of this season’s toys float in water, too.
Oh, and those bright colors we mentioned earlier? They come in extra handy at the river or lake.
“Any item that goes into water has a vibrant green or yellow color,” Kim points out. “We’re making sure that this thing isn’t going to get lost.”

Fun and Functional
Kim predicts that pet parents will be taking their furry friends from the woods to the beach to the backyard this spring—and that means their gear needs to keep up, too.
Pet parents increasingly value durability when it comes to their pet’s stuff. From rough-and-tumble tug toys made of sturdy rope, to frisbees made of lightweight-yet-tough fabric, your pet’s products are built to last.
“These aren’t just one-off toys that last two weeks,” Kim says. “These are items that’ll be long-lasting and sustainable.”
