Cats won't go near it
I was happy to order this pet food which is only meat with no additives. I'm sure most dogs would love it, but our cats walk away from it. I waited at least a week before trying to give it to them again, same thing, they want nothing to do with it. I tried adding some cod liver oil, nope. Beef bouillon, nope. One of our cats is allergic to chicken so I have to carefully read the fine print on every product, because even when a food is not called chicken, more often than not it has chicken in it. I'm eager to try anything new that doesn't contain chicken. I looked forward to trying this buffalo food. It's unfortunate that Chewy doesn't sell one can at a time so it can be sampled before having to order a large quantity, often quite expensive. Also of note, unrelated to the above complaint, is that the Evanger's cans are an odd size and there are no lids that fit on them once they are opened.
buffalo is my favorite
limited ingredient diet and sizing is perfect for my cat. I also dont mind if my dog gets into it. It has helped with my cats dietary issues since we started using this food. My cat, toby, used to vomit after every meal, and now he eats and has put on weight! No allergies either :)
Yay, Evanger's and Chewy!
My kitties and kittens eat a raw diet, but Evanger's high quality proteins are what I give them for a "fast food" meal, when I haven't the time to prepare the raw diet. I figure it also gives them more variety. They like all the Evanger's varieties I've given them: Chicken, Buffalo, Quail, and Rabbit. Thank you Evanger's and Chewy for the high quality and GREAT prices!
Not Good for Cats
I bought this item for my adult cat because it was high calorie/protein and my cat is extremely active and playful. My cat is not a picky eater at all other than the fact that he really only likes food with a pate texture (which this is). Nevertheless, he would not eat a single bite of this. I tried two days in a row and he would not even touch it. Because he hated it so much and it is made for cats and dogs, I decided I would see if my friends Schnauzer mix liked it and he wouldn't eat it either! Thankfully, Chewy gave me a full refund and I donated the remaining cans to the local humane society.
Abby Girl's sinuses have improved after eating this
My Abby Girl has suffered with sinus issues since she was a wee kitten. The vet said it was because of a virus. But after many years, someone suggested that it might be a food allergy. I know that for people, elimination diets can help with chronic conditions. So I decided to put Abby Girl on a cat food with minimum ingredients. This one is about as minimum as it gets. After one week, her sneezing is less, and her mucus is clear. In time, I hope her sinus issues completely go away. I also have her on the Rabbit version. Both seem to work well with her.
Almost a goner but Evanger's saved the day
my 15 yr old toothless chihuahua gave up on eating. I was hand feeding him but he ate so little he was losing too much weight. He was not interested in food. BUT I tried Evanger's Buffalo last week. HE LOVES IT. He eats 2x a day now and barks at me to get his food fixed up FASTER. He loves it so much and has gained back a pound! (he is now 4 pounds). I also supplement with dog vitamins and minerals.
Both my dog and cat love it!
I give both my dog and cat some of the Evanger's canned buffalo food as an extra treat with their usual food. They both love it! My cat even cries for more!
Evanger's is great!
My dog has become very picky and I have added Evanger's to her eating routine. It has made all the difference in the world! She is back to eating.
Can vary a lot from case to case.
Out of six cats, five generally won't touch it but one usually absolutely goes nuts for it so I buy it. One thing to be aware is that this food can vary greatly from case to case and month to month -- i.e. the case of Evanger's Buffalo you buy in June may be very different from the one you order later in November (hence the "usually" equivocation in my statement about the one cat I have who loves this food). The last case I bought of Buffalo Evangers the food was very light colored, almost an off-white & cat wouldn't go near it; the previous case I purchased the food was much redder and darker and cat gobbled it down with gusto. I imagine this has to do with the buffalo "feed stock" Evangers can lay hands on at any given time. FYI.
Cats Won't Touch It
I'm really really sad to read this review but it is my honest opinion. Not one of my five cats would touch this food neither would it all four of my toy poodles. The ingredients are extremely healthy and very minimal so I'm very upset by this. This food is absolutely wonderful but if you have a finicky eater don't get it
