Goldfinches love this blend!
I bought this blend to put on the caged feeder for small birds. The caged feeder usually attracts house sparrows. And the seed hoop under this feeder attracts mourning doves, red-winged blackbirds, etc. that enjoy eating the seed on the seed hoop. Using this blend in the caged feeder, this time I can see goldfinches and house finches move from the yellow feeder to the caged feeder. Finches and house finches usually enjoy eating the yellow feeder that contains nyjer and sunflower chips. This time they enjoy the two feeders that I usually put next to each other.
Love this mix!
We have tried dozens of mixes to find what works for us and this is the only one that makes us all happy. Other mixes bring starlings and grackles which pick on the smaller birds. We also have a problem being in the city, with pigeons. This food takes care of all that. Don't know exactly why, only that it does. I did read somewhere that the bigger birds don't like fooling with the smaller seeds so maybe that's it?? Who knows? Anyway, we get our goldies, red finches and purples along with the cardinals and a few sparrows. Sometimes the sparrows have been pushy at the feeder, but they aren't even sticking around too long. They do knock a little on the ground and the doves enjoy that. All good. Anyway, at this price we are thrilled because even other mixes that were much more expensive have caused problems. We will continue to purchase this as long as our feathered friends are satisfied. It does leave some hulls to clean up in the evening when we service the feeder, but even that is an easy fix.
not a good choice
I should have known better than to buy any seed blend that is mostly millet. The name of this product is "no waste", but that refers only to the lack of seed hulls that will fall to the ground, but not the millet all over the ground that no bird or small yard rodent will eat. "No waste" doesn't apply to the money I spent either. I'll go back to my favorite no mess blend that contains no millet. It costs more per pound, but not a speck goes to waste, which makes it the better buy.
Not exactly no waste
It’s a great price, but as others have reported the birds do not love the millet. However, my main complaint is the very large peanuts which the birds do not eat. If they cut the peanuts in half and remove the millet, I think that would improve things. I love the price and they provide some great sunflower chips.
I normally get Wild Deligh Porch and Patio for my bird feeder, with great success (and zero leftovers), but thought I would try this mix for once, since it was cheaper. Looked up millet and it seemed it would be eaten by all sorts of birds. Well, not a single bird touches it, it’s half the bag and it always gets left at the bottom of the feeder once they pick out everything else. Even the squirrels won’t finish it. I think I will just give this bag to my friend’s chickens and reorder my usual bird food.
Very Fresh Seed
I can feed this to my parakeets; pick the peanuts out for my parrot & outdoor squirrels; and what gets left goes to the wild birds outdoors...the squirrels, etc. Great price and plenty of everything in the bag - no milo (wheat) that mostly gets wasted and rots for the earthworms to eat. (Robins come along in spring and eat the earthworms - but this seed without the fillers gives you more bang for your buck without taking a chance on regular birds eating wasted, eventually spoiled seeds)!
OK For Small birds But Too Much Wasted on Large Birds
The bag contained more milo and millet than I expected from the picture and description. The best way to use this seems to be to mix it in with shelled peanuts and sunflower chips, otherwise you'll be cleaning out a lot of the millet and milo left in the feeder and there will be a carpet of those two ingredients on the ground.
They eat every last crumb
I started buying this because I have so many birds here. Doves, finches, Woodpeckers, Blue Jays and the occasional chicken all come and enjoy the food. And I did a lot of research and they do like the millet however if it has the husks on most of the tiny birds don’t eat it. With the husks being off of the millet in this no waist mix, not only does it not sprout in the yard, but the birds eat it really well that that does get left or falls on the ground doesn’t sprout and that was the problem with with other seed. Right now buying three and getting one free will help ME make it through the winter to come. With expenses going up on everything around the world, keeping this little joy will help not only my spirit, but the spirits of the little creatures that can eat here.
Not a seed left uneaten!
The backyard birds had a frenzied feast on these seeds, just the way they like'em! I bet it was tasty and easy to swallow! However, my only suggestion to the plastic bag packaging is that it needs another double bag to protect against breakage during transport. The entire bag of bird food broke inside the shipping box and I had to bring the box outside of my home to pour the contents into another bag! It was a mess but the food was bird approved!
Great price but there are too many nuts that the birds will kick out of the feeder. Also way too much regular bird seed, for some reason the wild birds won’t eat those. Won’t buy again because a lot of it is wasted.
