What is the quick release snap?
Answer by ChewyApr 16, 2019
The Quick-Release Snap Hook allows you to quickly take the collar on and off without taking the links apart. It stays secure during walks, but is easy to use when training is over.

Very effective collar

This prong collar has been very effective in stopping my dog from lunging towards other dogs. It provides self correction without harming my dog.

Only get Herm Sprenger, but I still prefer the old style

3.5 STARS. Prong collars are the only ones that prevent my adolescent Rottie/Chow from pulling. He walks like a charm on a prong and at 1.5 years he now does not pull at all, just walks along side of us. My Pit Bull walks well with a prong ONLY if there is a jerk-ease shock absorber attached. I have used Herm Sprenger prong collars for 20 years and they are the best! I ordered the one without the latch and received this one... and my only qualm with this one IS the latch. You have to be 1000% sure it is latched all the way when clipping it back into place. It will appear to be secure and is not. It fell off my dog once when we just got out the front door. Luckily, he did not realize and stayed put. Just be aware and inspect the latch BEFORE you place on your dog each time and you should be fine. That being said... I will be ordering the Herm Sprenger *Stainless Steel* Prong WITHOUT the latch. My two prior dogs (Kelpie & Shepherd) each had one that lasted their entire 15-year lives. Please do not bother with another brand as I have tried them in a pinch and have fallen right off my dogs. However, I prefer the Herm Sprenger stainless steel prong without the latch.

Hard to clasp

I have had this collar in the past but this one is much harder to clasp unfortunately. May have to buy the one with the clip.

100% recommend!

This collar is a complete game changer! I have a 9 month old golden doodle who used to be a terror when it came to walks. Would pull me down the stairs, choke himself, and would jump on strangers. Ever since getting this collar, he no longer pulls or jumps and i now have full control. We are now able to enjoy our long walks together.

Best ever training tool

I have a baby shepherd that I was ready to part with. He was too much dog for me. I hired a trainer that recommended this collar. It has worked miracles. We can take walks and when he starts acting up, out comes the collar and the negative behavior stops. I highly recommend this route over a shoke collar

Quick release is terrible

The collar itself is great and works very well. However, DO NOT get the one with the quick release. It literally fell right of my dog during a walk and of course she took off and I had to chase her around the neighborhood. It was a horrible experience and so maybe bad things could have happened. Get the collar WITHOUT the quick release feature. It’s convenient and easier to remove, until it removes itself and you have a loose dog on your hands.

Real Herm Sprenger = High Quality

Beware, on other sites Herm Sprenger may be advertised, but it's an imitation with much lower quality. The one I purchased here, from Chewy, is high quality with the prongs in opposite directions for opposite sides, rounded tips, quality latch, and prongs are tight (yet still possible to change out for correct sizing). REMEMBER, it is recommended to have another attachment in case of prongs ever open during a walk. ALWAYS SUPERVISE WHENEVER A DOG WEARS A PRONG COLLAR.

I'm a dog owner

I bought this coat because my dog was not responding to, nor did she care about the traditional chain choke collar that I had bought. I haven't tried this new collar out yet, but it looks very well made with quality metals. It is user friendly and allows for easy size change by removing or adding links to the collar. I think this collar will serve my dog and I well, and at this point, I'd buy it again.

Faulty clasp

The clasp to close the collar has become more and more difficult to close after about 2 months of use. This makes it very difficult for the various dogwalkers in our family (young and old) to secure the collar and leaves us to hook the leash to a standard collar instead (which makes doggo much less controllable during walks).

Staining dogs fur

Puppy has white fur and this collar has stained his fur grey! Super unhappy, means the metal is cheap w/ chemicals or something unhealthy if it’s putting off this much stain on his coat.
