Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
Day 7 | 0% | 100% |

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

good for my cat
By Barb on Feb 6, 2021
My cat needs to be on Venison cat food. I am just trying this out to see if I can switch my cat to dry kibble instead of canned food that is not as good as it used to be. She seems to like it but because of bowl issues I am taking it VERY slowly in switching her.

Hill's d/d Skin/Food Sensitivites Vensuib & Green Pea
By Jackie on Oct 22, 2020
I have a cat with food allergies. Flossy has been on Hill's Z/D since birth. Checking I noticed Brewer's Rice was listed as an ingredient which according to her blood test she shouldn't have. Just checking to see if d/d might be a good alternative. The jury is still out on this

stopped Sneezing
By Bob0121us on Sep 15, 2020
The food is the first of many I tried to stop my cat from sneezing and she likes it. I wish it had more omega three and six vitamins in it For her shedding and coat. Blue buffalo had the most and I couldn’t believe how it’s cut down our shedding by 80%. I was hoping this would do the same but isn’t. This food is definitely worth it if your cat has allergies.

Max without it would not be.
By MaxTreats on Oct 8, 2020
My orange tabby, Max , has an auto immune disease. He was scratching himself raw. Without this food, I doubt Max would of survived. Now...He’s fat and happy and skin has healed totally.

Bye bye cat vomit!
By Momo on Apr 14, 2020
My 2 year old cat has been eating this for 4 months now and he no longer vomits every other week! He used to suffer from constant diarrhea as a kitten and after so many vet visits that didn't confirm presence of parasites or illness, we narrowed it down to food allergies/sensitivity. He can't have any poultry or grains, did well with fish for a few months but then he started to constantly throw up. And his poo was so smelly! My poor lil guy looked so emaciated not holding in any nutrients. I was skeptic about finally giving into my vet's suggestion for prescription Hills, but after going through 3 different premium brands and my carpet taking constant vomit-beatings we were ready to try something My 2 year old cat has been eating this for 4 months now and he no longer vomits every other week! And boyyyy the improvement was instant! He's only vomited twice since switching, but he finally has meat on his bones and is healthier than ever. Wish the price was cheaper but I won't take my chances with anything else. The food doesn't smell, kitty has no more gastro issues, and he loves eating it! … more

My cat likes her new food!
By JABS on Jul 6, 2020
The pieces of food are nice and small which it the kind of food my cats likes best. I was so happy that she ate her new food. The only bad point is that it's very expensive.

Food good, password not
By Lolo on Jun 26, 2020
Dumb to even require a password to purchase pet food. My password was rejected even though I have it written down. I reset with the identical password.

Cat's love it.
By Jenn on May 6, 2020
I usually order this through the vet. In these tough times I could not receive the food on time so I checked on Chewy. I was very happy to see this food was available so I ordered and received pretty quickly. The 2 cat's love it.
