About Hill's Prescription Diet g/d Aging Care for Dogs

Improving Lives Together

Groundbreaking Nutrition for Aging Pets

Hill's Aging Care formulas were made for aging pets and their specific needs. Prescription Diet b/d supports the immune system, helps protect against free radical damage and protects the heart and kidneys. Prescription Diet g/d helps maintain a normal blood pressure, minimizes fluid retention and supports the immune system. Both recipes provide great support for your friend in her golden years.

Clinical Nutrition

With Hill's, it's not just high-quality ingredients that count. Their focus is on the proper balance of nutrients in every recipe. So, Hill's designed food to help pets with health conditions, providing the right nutrients to support their health. Hill's alliance with veterinarians puts them in a position to find a nutrition recommendation for your pet, no matter what health issue your pet is facing.

Formulated by Veterinarians

Hill's Prescription Diet started with a veterinarian's belief that some health issues could be managed through nutrition. What began as a theory has now been proven through extensive research by a team of over 220 vets, PhD nutritionists and food scientists. The results can be seen in Hill's Prescription Diet therapeutic pet foods.

The Taste Factor

You might know that Hill's Prescription Diet is good for your pet, but she's only concerned with the taste. Even though they place a heavy emphasis on nutrition, Hill's hasn't forgotten about palatability. Savory ingredients are combined to produce foods with enticing aromas, textures, and shapes that your pet can't resist.

Has turkey flavor always been in g/d? Or has their been a change? All of a sudden our chihuahua doesn't like g/d. Has been eating for couple years. Thanks

Answer by ChewyJun 23, 2018
This item does contain Turkey. There was not a recent formula change.

Does Hills aging care g/d make treats to give my dog also. I would love if they did with the exact ingredients. Dogs love treats too! My dog is limited to this food due to his health.

Answer by ChewyJul 25, 2018
The Hill's Prescription Diet Soft Baked Dog Treats are appropriate for the g/d diet.

Are they available in different size cans?

Answer by Autumn NAug 28, 2024
At this time, this formula is only available in a 13 ounce can.

What does 0.21% sodium "on a dry matter basis" mean? Also, how much phosphorous in this?

Answer by ChewyJun 26, 2020
Dry Matter Basis is the nutrient in the formula after moisture is removed. It is used to make direct comparisons of nutrient profiles with differing moisture contents. This formula has approximately 0.42% phosphorus on a dry matter basis.

My Momo loves the g/d food. I microwave it 12-15 seconds so the texture is perfect. she can be picky at times, so I have to switch between the multi organ tablets and the g/d can every two days or so. I also tried the multi organ wet and JFFD and she hates it.

It is dry, tightly packed, and disliked by everyone.

OK, my dog cubby has had Cushing’s for over two years now. I was using the Gastro EN food, it was great and he was loving it. I never had an issue with it. But then we discovered that he has proteinuria and has to have another kind of food and this food was suggested. The first case we got, he ate it and he liked it, wasn’t crazy about it, but cleaned his bowl, now I can't force it down his throat. I really don’t know what to do. I’ve paused my autoship, I need to find another food or I’m going to have to start making it. I have ten cans left of this food, luckily I have found a family to donate it to. This is a very expensive case of food and it’s very frustrating that I’m having to jump through all these hoops to find food that he likes and I’m having no luck. I will say, this food is extremely dry, it comes packed completely in the can and almost carries the indention of the can, it’s packed so tightly, you start to spoon it out, it starts to slightly fall apart. I’ve microwaved it with some water and tried to make it mushy. I’ve even added Cooked turkey to increase his likelihood of eating it. But right now I’m getting blank eyes and zero interest.

Although this food is a prescription through our vet - turns out our very picky senior shih tzu enjoys it; which was a very pleasant surprise. It has definitely been a game-changer in our home because it has taken the stress out of mealtime. Nothing like eliminating one stressor from our lives, right?

Rejected by my dog

I have tried this food but unfortunately my dog rejects it, I’m not sure why. She would eat the dry g/d dog food without a problem but it has been discontinued

My Dog Loves It

My 15 year old senior was recently diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure. He also suffers from pancreatitis. This is the only Rx food available that has lower protein

My 15 year old senior was recently diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure. He also suffers from pancreatitis. This is the only Rx food available that has lower protein for his kidneys and less fat for pancreatitis. Despite his age, he is healthy and walks about two miles a day and still enjoys hiking with us. Once I switched to this food, his energy level increased and he was almost back to his pre kidney disease level. He’s on fluids once weekly and doesn’t get many treats due to sodium content but his kidney levels improved after 3 months on this food. I’m so thankful he likes it. I have to break it up with a fork and he likes it much better at room temp. He weighs 17 lbs and is supposed to eat 1.5 cans a day but he most often doesn’t finish a can a day. He also takes an acid reducer daily which has helped with the pancreatitis. I also tried making his food with an Rx from my vet and supplements I ordered. It was super difficult to get the formula correct, time consuming and after a few days he stopped eating it. I spent a fortune on the ingredients, supplements, scale, measuring spoons converting to grams, etc. I’m so thankful for this food and that he likes it. He was declining rapidly and this food has helped so much.

Wally really likes this food

As a prescription food, I was concerned about how it would taste. However, Wally really likes it....a lot!
