Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

How do I order veterinary diets?
Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?
Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills?
Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Was this a substitute since our regular is out of stock? Half the size and same price. Ouch
What is the consistancy, it says stew. Are there visible veggies? Is it very lumpy compared to pate? Vet is changing my cat to this but not sure he will eat it.

This recipe is a chicken and vegetable stew. Please click the picture below for an image of the food texture.
One of my kittens has a Rx for this food but it is impossible to get him to eat with out my other kitten having this food as well. They only want to eat together. Is it OK to feed this to a cat who doesn't need a special food and have it be his only food?
Answer by • Oct 20, 2018
This product states that animal feeding tests using AAFCO procedures substantiate that Hill's® Prescription Diet® i/d® Feline Chicken & Vegetable Stew provides complete and balanced nutrition for growing kittens and maintenance of adult cats. This means that kittens and adult cats can eat this as a complete diet, but we always recommend consulting with your vet.
This really works to calm their digestive tracts and greatly improves stool quality. I love this food for so many reasons. Cats that have not been feeling well seem to take to eating it easily and it helps them regain their strength and gets them back on track to eating normally again.

My Cats Love This Stuff
If you have older kitties that have problems with digestion, this stuff is a God send. I'm so glad my Vet prescribed this because one of my cats was in constant vomit mode, to the point where she wouldn't eat or even drink! This food got her eating again and has done wonders for her digestion. It is a bit chunky, however, I just put it through my Ninja for a smoother texture and she enjoys it. I wish Hills would make this Chicken & Vegetable Stew in the 5.5 oz. cans. I would definitely buy it since it has helped my cat so much!

Excellent Cat Food
When we first adopted our 1 yo rescue, she had a sensitive stomach. Once the Vet put her on this food, it has all been calm for the last 4 years! YAY! Only problem is that it is out of stock a lot. Recommend buying 2-4 cases at a time!

So convenient
I really appreciate that I can add this prescription food to my Chewy order. And it is more reasonably priced than buying them at the Vet

My sick cat loves this
My cat has been vomiting more frequently and so my vet suggested to put him on this prescription food. My cat loved it immediately and it's hard to keep my other (non-sick) cat away. It has plenty of vegetables and a good amount of gravy (which my cats love!). No transition needed and he has not vomited after eating it, but the can is small and it is very expensive. I don't know how I can afford keeping him on this for life, as I am retired.
