Questions & Answers

My service dog has been put on your I/D low fat because she has been diagnosed with pancreatitis. Do you have treats for this as well?
Answer by ChewyOct 27, 2017
The Hill's Prescription Diet Hypo-Treats Dog Treats are suggested for a pup on the i/d Diet.

Hi, can this canned food after opened be out of the refrigerator?
Answer by ChewyOct 07, 2017
Opened cans of food should be stored in the fridge to retain moisture, minimize exposure to air and reduce transfer of odors to other food. The best way to store opened cans of cat or dog food is to use a plastic pet food lid that fits the top of the can to prevent moisture loss and transfer of odors. If a plastic lid is not available, plastic wrap also provides a very good moisture, air and odor barrier. Zip-to-close bags provide good moisture barriers but do not provide good oxygen and odor barriers. Opened cans should be stored in the fridge, at temperatures between 40-45°F, for a maximum of 5-7 days. Any cat or dog food remaining after that time should be thrown out.

Is there a preservative in this food? If so, what is it? Thanks!
Answer by ChewyJul 27, 2018
Hill's does not use preservatives in their formulas as the vacuum seal on the can serves as a preservative.

Are all the ingredients made in the USA?
Answer by ChewyMar 25, 2019
All of Hill's products source raw materials only from countries where there are reliable safety procedures in place, primarily in the United States, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and several European countries.

Hills Low-fat Prescription pate

Hey guys as many many of the other customers here my Shitzapoo has pancreatitis. He's been on this Hill Low-fat Pate formula for about 4 years. Over the last few months I was really having an issue with getting him to eat, at least until he could reject it no more cause he was so hungry! I had no idea that hills changed the recipe until today reading the other testimonials! Like a lot of the other people here since hills didn't notify us by changing the label to say new formula it just never occured to me that that was what was going on! Good News!! Because my dog was showing his dislike for the new low-fat prescription diet by hills I started looking for an alternative. I found one that my dog loves! It's also a low fat prescription diet and it's put out by "Blue Buffalo"! My dog absolutely loves the stuff. He liked it so much that I decided to try their low fat prescription kibble to and low and behold, my picky, fussy, irritatingly lovable fur baby absolutely went crazy for it! So, I've read a lot of other reviews on chewy today about how disappointed we all are about hills change in formula and I would just like to advise y'all to at least look into the Blue Buffalow formula maybe it will resolve your dog food problems too?!?! Good luck! 🙋🏼‍♀️😉

Awesome product

Our fur kids Sammy and maybe absolutely love gobbling up this food! They were eating a different kind of food that was approved by their veterinarian and it made both of them extremely ill. After we switched vets and they recommended science diet, chewy became or go to place for good pricing and quality food and treats. The autoship is a fantastic feature and chewy is an amazing company.

She Loves It!

Due to her health, we had to put our dog on a special diet. 2 Vets we took her to both recommended Hills i/d and... she loves it! She's approaching 15 years old, but she's got her spunk and appetite back. Thank you!

Getting stomach back to normal!

It works! Prescribed for my dog having a stomach problem and helped quickly to get her back to normal. Using to mix with regular food is a great way to help transition your pet once they are feeling better. Dog loves the food.

Great for upset tummies & food emergencies

I keep this digestive care handy I cases my dogs have tummy upsets or if I run out of their regular food. I feed raw blend so if the food doesn't defrost in time I can simply open a can of ID and it doesn't upset the applecart.

Pricy but has to eat

My dog has been put on this food by the vet. She stopped eating the dry and will not eat it wet. We tried every trick in the books. We have now had to resort to the wet version. She is eating now. At her age, I’m not going to complain much, but the price of things as I have started losing pets because of their old age. I cannot afford these costs. It’s crazy what they charge. It’s sad thinking she will be my last dog!

Lifesavers

We couldn't go to vet for our pug's prescription food due to illness, so it was really a life saver to be able to order the food and get it to the house so our pug didn't have to go hungry or eat anything that might make her sick. She is diabetic and has pancreatitis so her diet is very important.

New formula is an improvement

Our dog has been eating this food for 19 months. He stopped vomiting and his pancreas values were stable but he had episodes of diarrhea caused by an overgrowth of clostridium bacteria and would need metronidazole. Since the formula change, he hasn’t had this problem anymore. I’ve noticed the darker color that other reviews have mentioned but figure it’s because of the pecan shells that have been added. He really seems to like it and the smoother texture makes it easier to serve.

PLS BRING BACK OLD FORMULA

Our pup has had ongoing tummy issues (IBD, pancreatitis, allergies), and this was the ONE safe food for him. Since they decided to add PECAN SHELLS (?????), which I am severely allergic to, and also have absolutely never heard of in dog food, we have no food options for him. I don’t understand why ingredients like that would be used and saw that other customers had issues with the formula change. It’s super disappointing. He’s currently on z/d but developed pancreatitis from it. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK!!!
