Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Hey, the cat will eat it!
By Brail on Feb 9, 2021
My cat, at 13, was diagnosed with either intestinal cancer or IBD. He lost a lot of weight and recently, his stools were grayish, runny and smelly. Hoping for IBD, my vet put him on prednisolone and prescribed Hills I/d as it is supposedly easier to digest. I’m not a real fan of chicken and it does contain corn, but the cat eats it, so I’m pleased. I’m surprised since he refuses so much else - won’t even touch wet food. After looking at the ingredients, I’m not sure why it has to be vet-prescribed, but there it is. His stools are much better and he is also eating a bit better. I am feeding him wet food with a syringe and it may be the prednisolone that is helping, but I am satisfied with My cat, at 13, was diagnosed with either intestinal cancer or IBD. Life saver! Great prescription dry food
By Ekaterina on Jan 20, 2021
This dry food is a Life saver! Our vet prescribed this dry food because one of our cats had problems with stool and after a month I noticed some improvement. She is a crazy picky eater and I was so surprised that she loved this food and ask for it even at night. Always happy with Chewy services and exceptional customer service all the time!

It really does work
By Morin on Jan 4, 2021
My vet recommended this product for my cat who has a very sensitive stomach and pukes up almost all brands of food. This cut the puking down significantly for a few months. However, if you have a more wild breed like my cat and the puking starts again try wet food. I now buy this exact food but the wet version and she has not puked once in two weeks (which is impressive).

Can't have too much of this food
By TripleL on Nov 27, 2020
I don't know what ingredient is in this cat food that makes my cat go crazy over food but it does the job. My 6 year old female Siamese was brought up on nothing but canned cat food and table scrap leftovers. She has known nothing but wet food until I gave her this food. I tried this food on my friend's recommendation when my cat became sick. Sophie became ill and would not eat her favorite foods. The vet could not find a cause so I forced fed her protein gel supplement. My friend suggested I try this food - what did I have to lose. Lo and behold, Sophie not only ate the food but she just couldn't get enough of it. My cat loves it
By Julie on Jan 15, 2021
My Siamese has chronic pancreatitis and has to be on this type of food. We are strict about her diet, and she hasn’t had an attack in years. She LOVES this food, and we give her a few kibbles as treats in between meals as well as her meal.

This food REALLY works
By xrayaunie on Dec 25, 2020 Top 500 Contributor
My 12 year old cat was recently diagnosed with IBD/possible low grade lymphoma. He always had a sensitive stomach, but was vomiting, had diarrhea, and was losing weight over the past 6 months, even on high quality grain free kibble. It was absolutely heartbreaking and stressful watching him suffer. I thought I was losing him. The vet suggested Hill's I/D along with some steroids to help his symptoms. I had some reservations about this food and the ingredients, but was desperate and had nothing to lose. After only a week, he was symptom free. It has now been 3 weeks, no vomit, no diarrhea, and he has some pep in his step! He is also having solid, non-smelly BM's, which has not happened My 12 year old cat was recently diagnosed with IBD/possible low grade lymphoma. Picky eater loves this food
By Monkeygirl on Jan 19, 2021
We supplement the wet food with this dry. Our picky eater must like the dry as well as the wet as she does not “complain” like she did before we got this recommendation and script from the Vet.

Really helps digestion!
By Deedee on Feb 5, 2021
One of my cats would throw up food occasionally. The vet suggested we switch to Hill’s I/D. He has not had any more upset tummy issues. Very good ingredients.
