Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Just What I Needed!
By BassetMom on Jan 21, 2021
My big boy will eat anything, and as much as he can get. I think it is maybe a Basset thing. He was the biggest in his litter. Over his 5 years, he has packed on the pounds. His vet said that he needs to lose weight if I want him to live because his weight would put a strain on his heart. The bag comes with advice on how much to feed for the desired weight, so you will have to call your vet to ask what that is for your dog. Be aware that some vets put more importance on healthy weight than others, so I will call the vet in that practice who more closely monitors our dog's weight. The pieces are about 1/2" in size so I don't know if a toy size dog would like it.

Very effective for weight loss!
By Robin on Feb 18, 2021
Our two Labradors are prone to weight gain, particularly in winter, and this sub zero winter in Kansas! Our yellow Lab also takes medication every 8 hours for seizures, big pills that have to be given with food. This food is amazing for getting them back to their ideal weight after gaining too much. They are on weight maintenance food regularly.

Chewy and Hills Metabolic Are Both Great
By SadieLovesChewy on Feb 12, 2021
Our 13 year old "puppy" recently converted to Hills Metabolic, and she loves it. She was never a very robust eater, but she can't get enough of it. And Chewy is the best, delivering our product the day after ordering it via Fedex! Sadie couldn't be happier:)

It's still early in her diet
By Karapg on Dec 1, 2020
My girl is a beagle mix (we think). We believe that she should be around 40 pounds and she is 52 pounds currently. We rescued her off the streets and she had no food at the time and was severely underweight, so she started eating both her dog sisters food without us really knowing she was doing it since we work full time. I think it was just an instinctual thing since she was not used to having food. We just made sure they always had food available so she was constantly eating while we were gone, where the other 2 would just eat when they were hungry. We tried putting her on a diet with her normal food, but she didn't lose anything. So because of this, she has quite a bit of weight to lose. She My girl is a beagle mix (we think). But if I warm up 1/4 cup of water and stir it in, she will eat it. Without adding the warm water to make a gravy, she won't touch it though. She always seems to be hungry too and I'm feeding her the exact same amount as her old food (2 1/3 cups). This one is just lower in calories. She actually gained 5 pounds the first week she was on it. Since then, she has lost a pound of it. I can't speak long term for this since she has only been on it for 2 weeks. I do know several people personally who this worked for their dogs. This was the cheapest it was priced anywhere. … more

Corn Fillers
By OverweightHusky on Jan 5, 2021
This food is worthless. I adopted my overweight pup and the vets recommended Hills diet food. She’s been on a strict diet, no treats, and we get plenty of exercise. At least one hour per day which is recorded on her Whistle fitness and health tracker. It’s been over a year. She hasn’t lost weight!

Helped my dog lose weight
By Tania on Jan 23, 2021
My three year old beagle loves this food. We had noticed that over the last year he had steadily gained weight. He has already lost over a pound in less than 10 days, and I've noticed his energy is also back. Highly recommend this item.

Messed Up Order
By Lauren on Nov 24, 2020
This was a mess. I ended up with a double order which means a double expense. I had three seperate phone calls to try to get this order correct and still it was wrong. For the third call, when I called to ask to stop the second order, I wasn't given any options, just that there were two orders being delivered. I asked for a supervisor and was placed on hold. I got frustated and hung up. I have been so happy with Chewy in the past and this order has left me displeased. I have loved the Christmas Card I receive every year. Not sure why this order was such a mess and the people I was connected to for each phone call couldn't get it right.

Dogs love it!
By Grandmother on Jan 11, 2021
My dog loves this food and took to it right away. I also feed it to my grand dog, who has a gas problem. This food solves that problem when he stays with me

Ranger eats it up!
By DunitRanch on Oct 11, 2020
My Dog was gaining weight and becoming a slug! He is 20 lbs over weight. After having blood work done, it was discovered that his metabolism was so low and he has hypothyroidism. My Vet suggested the Prescription Diet for Ranger, along with Thyroid medication. I was afraid the food wasn't going to be very palatable, and was shocked on how much Ranger loves the food! He has been on the food for 2 weeks now and will get blood work retested and weighed in another 2 weeks. I can see a big difference already. A little costly, but if t does the job, I'm good with that!
