At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?
Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills?
Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

My dogs would not go near this food. I got smart and added water and some wet food and now they will eat it but they definitely don't like it. Their poops are super solid so it did the trick but they don't love it.

Prescription Diet
I finally switched to chewy when my vets office started being hit and miss with getting my dogs prescription food in with their orders. I signed up for auto ship and saved a bit too. Plus free shipping! This food is sky high everywhere. My vets office couldn't even get the 27 lb bags and the price is the same so it was a no brainer for us so our girl has her food and no more uncertainty!

Farley loves his new food---multi benefit w/d.
At Farley's vet's recommendation, I ordered the new dry dog food and he loves it. I am grateful that you provide
food that is tailored for Farley's diabetes and that makes him one happy, healthy dog.

Didn’t Work
Parker has IBD and Coccidiosis. Our vet told us that this food would be better for his coccidiosis. However it made his IBD so much worse. He was very gassy and burping no stop. He would belch worse than a man. Lol. Parker didn’t care for the food.

They Love it
My dogs love this food. I was giving them something else but when I gave this to them, they refused to eat the other food. They would just wait to eat until I brought out this food. I'm ordering it again. It is multi benefit and one of those benefits is urinary health which one of my dogs needs plus weight management which they both need.

Hill's Rx Multi-Benefit dry dog food
The vet prescribed this food for our elderly dog quite a while ago when he had what we assume was a pancreatitis attack. He had always been one to eat anything and everything, so we had to watch his weight as well, but his stomach has become more sensitive as he's gotten older. He loves this food and has done very well on it. The real surprise is that our two other dogs also love this food! Because they have different needs, we feed them something else, but they expect to get a "treat" of several bites of this food every time we feed the elderly dog. I know that some dogs may be sensitive to grains and other products that are in this food, but I truly believe it has helped to prolong our little old man's life.
