How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Great Health Benefits if You Can Get Your Dog to Eat It
By Paste on Feb 22, 2021
My 12.5 yr old dog has blood glucose & weight problems. This food formulation has helped regulate his blood glucose as well as aided in weight loss, (maybe because he refuses to eat his food when I put this in it). He has never been a picky eater (i.e.. his weight problem) He refuses to eat his food when I put this can of "paste" in with his dry kibble. I have to mix the canned chicken stew formula in with it & he still won't eat it unless I add regular canned dog food in with it. Having to mix in non Rx formulated canned food to get him to eat this is defeating the reason for feeding it. I don't recommend this item as it must taste really bad if my fat dog that eats ANYTHING won't eat his food My 12.5 yr old dog has blood glucose & weight problems. Decent food for diabetic dog
By canfood on Feb 22, 2021
my diabetic dog will eat anything so not a problem its my other dog who is picky and doesn't care for this loaf style food. I was getting the stew style which both dogs liked but it is very strong smelling so I switched to this type which smells less strong but one dog won't eat it and both are expensive.

Fast and Easy
By Fran on Mar 3, 2021
My vet was out of my dogs food, did a chewy order and they took care of the rest, notified my vet shipped my food and it was fast and easy. I plan to use chewy for all my furbys needs in the future.

Damaged cans
By Lucy on Jan 2, 2021
Really disappointed that the 2 cans in the center of the case are smashed. All packaging is in perfect condition, except the 2 center cans, like the factory snuck them into the case. I will continue to order from Chewy, because this was likely a factory issue, but annoyed I now have 2 cans I can’t feed to my dog.

Love the w/d Dog Food
By SueW on Feb 6, 2021
My dog has recently developed diabetes and my vet recommended that she switch to Hill's w/d. She loves it and it seems to keep her appetite satisfied better.

Inconsistent
By Bosco on Dec 20, 2020
My dog likes the flavor of this food. The first order of this food was the right consistency. This second batch has consistency of peanut butter. At first I thought it was my imagination. But then saw it was extremely challenging to eat. It kept sticking to the roof of her mouth.

By BobL on Jan 16, 2021
They are now using too much liquid, which makes the canned dog food muchy. I need this type of food because my dog is diabetic. They need to go back to the original formula.
