My dog is on the gastrointestinal biome dog food for a year now. She had a in flamed colon. She still licks feet bad. Could her gut be inflamed and need a probiotic?

Answer by HelloOct 04, 2025
Rinse dogs paws off after walk, clean bedding in hot water and vacuum carpets/sweep floors weekly, use air purifier, to help control environmental allergies. I would avoid qpoquel...read the insert and google. The Apoquel product insert warns that the medication may cause existing cancers to worsen and mentions that new benign and malignant tumors have been observed in clinical studies.

Does this contain omega 3 fatty acids?

My dog is small, are the kibbles small or large?

Answer by MurphyNov 24, 2025
Small, about the size of a large pea.

Does this food cause extra thirst?

Answer by ChewyNov 23, 2020
The manufacturer does not currently have any records on side effects like extra thirst. We recommend consulting your veterinarian if you are unsure about possible side effects, as they have an entirely different industry insight, and they can give you a second opinion based on both professional experience and research.

This stuff is almost like voodoo. My dog had a bad stomach for a week. Couldn’t solve. Somebody told me about this. Said every dog she gave it to responded quickly. I asked a vet for it (they agreed it works). Dog was better after one meal. Yeah, it isn’t believable. But true. It’s so expensive I tried to get her off of it. Cut it 25% with good (what I considered expensive) food that my last sensitive-stomach shepherd did well on (got her to 14 good years). No good. Even cut just 25% wouldn’t work. Back on 100% for one meal and better. Can’t imagine how this is possible but there’s no doubt. Might need a second mortgage to afford it but looks like I’m with it for life (as vet says, you find something that works just stick with it).

My pup absolutely needs this food. There is no other food that he does this well on. But it is very frustrating that Chewy ALWAYS has deals on every other kind of prescription except RX Dog Food. This product is wildly expensive. We get down to one or two bowls before we can scrape up enough to buy again. Please start adding coupons for RX Food. I am literally having to choose to feed him over me. Which I will always do, of course he comes before me. Please please add coupons for RX FOOD!!!

We recently switched from one prescription diet to this. It caused a little extra gas at first, but now it works great. Our boy has sensitive stomach as many dogs do and this has seemed to help solidify his stools. They aren’t totally solid, but a huge improvement. This does require a vet approval.

My 11 year old dog has had mild, occasional GI issues her whole life. In the last year or so, it’s progressed to occasional bouts of bloody diarrhea. One of which led to hospitalization. Veterinarians just recommend probiotics and metronidazole as needed, since the episodes are sporadic and not triggered by anything specific, but this never seemed like enough. Plus it wasn’t getting to the root of the issue. I found out about Hill’s Biome through work and asked my vet if we could try it. This formula is designed to not just stop GI issues but rebalance the gut so they’re less likely to reoccur. The blend of fiber, pre-, and probiotics has led to visibly better stools, less constipation, greater abdominal comfort, and overall better health for my girl. Since starting, we’ve had no bouts of belly pain or diarrhea. She visibly feels and acts better than she has in a year. And if you’re on the fence about Hill’s, I get it. I tried every “natural” option including commercial raw food, fresh food diets, supplements, etc without success. Say what you will, Hill’s has done the research. They understand canine nutrition. They’ve made breakthroughs in microbiome science. And it WORKS. (For those who worry about palatability, all my dogs want to eat this. So I’d say it’s high) If your dog struggles with GI issues, I highly recommend talking to your vet about this formula!

I truly value the velcro straps attached to the bag, which help maintain its closure and freshness. Oro has not encountered any problems thus far with eating or digesting the food. The most significant drawback is the price, which is outrageous. The company ought to feel embarrassed about their profit margins and excessive markup.

BELLA was experiencing blood in her poop in spite of eating a high-quality dried food. Her vet recommended that I change her diet Hills Gastrointestinal Biome dry food. Her vet told me that her own dog experienced the same bloody issue and that this food completely corrected it. That’s exactly what happened with us and I couldn’t be happier..

I have to mix this with stew but it has resulted in more solid poops. I have an extremely picky, unmotivated by food pup , so the fact that he is eating this at all is a small miracle. Will keep getting it until he decides he's had enough...which is usually the case after a few weeks.
