My dog absolutely loved this food, but she still swallowed it as she does with her regular food. She is a 45 lb blue heeler. I could not give it five stars for this reason, but as for flavor, she is extremely excited to get it as a treat. I will not buy the larger prescription dental food because I know she will probably crunch it one time and swallow the pieces whole and it's too expensive for that. Some dogs just don't chew their food.
My 3 year old Miniature Schnauzer eats Hill’s Prescription canned I/D and W/D and gets pieces of I/D kibble throughout the day for snacks. I also buy the Hill’s Metabolic Treats, but according to his weight, he is only allowed one of them a day. My veterinarian is very strict about weight and fortunately my pup is in the ideal range. He always acts like he is starving but he can’t be or it would show. I read reviews on the Hill’s Oral Care Kibble that these pieces of kibble are much too large and much too hard. I decided to try them to add to his snack time foods because that seemed to be perfect for him and sure enough he loves them because they are large, hard, and crunchy. I recently bought a bag of Hills small dog kibble (Chicken and Barley) and although he likes that too (he like’s everything) they are very tiny pieces so it doesn’t give him the same pleasure as the I/D kibble or the Metabolic biscuit treat. That’s why I decided to try the Oral Care kibble. BTW, I originally began giving him the prescription I/D and W/D because he had a lot of episodes of loose bowels and sometimes liquid diarrhea. The veterinarian would put him on Metronidazole or Tylan Powder and it would clear up for a while. I decided to keep him on his prescription foods because he is doing well now and my veterinarian has assured me they are completely balanced nutritionally for all life stages and he loves it. I do think canned food is better for him, as it is easier to digest, keeps him well hydrated, and almost all dogs love canned food. Feeding him some non prescription foods is not bothering his stomach at all and he does not require the prescription diets any more. But I can afford it, he loves it, and he is doing so well on it I see no reason to change anything. Miniature Schnauzers are prone to pancreatitis, bladder stones, periodontal disease, and diabetes. So, I am trying to prevent all of these medical issues by keeping him on a very low fat diet and keeping him well hydrated. I don’t know why, but he never, ever drinks water. Even on the hottest day is after a walk. However, my veterinarian tells me not to worry because he appears well hydrated. Thank you Chewy for getting my auto shipped foods to me on time. Adding a picture just to show his cuteness.
There was big build up on my dogs teeth. I’ve tried EVERYTHING and nothing keeps my dogs teeth clean like this dog food. So worth it! Even little dogs can eat it, takes some work but that is the point. I feed half and though because I do a little wet.
I only buy Hill Science oral care dry food because my dogs eat it without hesitation. Unfortunately it does contain unhealthy ingredients. Like lots of corn and wheat. I use to give it to my former dogs as a treat only.
We have been giving 3 a day to our dachshund since she was 25 months old. She is now 10 and we took her to have her teeth cleaned. They warned us that he breed has problems and don't be shocked if she will have to have some removed. Her teeth were perfect. Highly recommend.
This tater tot size kibble gives my Golden something to crunch on. They are dust free, have an oily texture an smell good. My Dogs coat was dry an dull on the old kibble. It now has a sheen and feels softer. Me and and the Dog like this product.
My vet recommended this to try and keep my dogs teeth cleaner (his teeth tend to build up plaque). He likes it, and my sister uses the dog food as a treat for her dog!
I bought this for my chihuahuas and the size of the kibble are way too big! I guess I’ll keep it and use one piece as a treat? I went back to read reviews and it sounds like most people have to smash them down.
This bag shows a dachshund on the bag so I order it. These pieces are huge!! My tiny dachshund will choke on these!!! Shame on you Hills for the misrepresentation of the food. Will not buy again.
This is considerably less expensive than Hill's Prescription t'd. Results are comparable and my dog likes the taste.
